So many RV dealers, campground owners and other exhibitors wanted to participate in the 47th Annual New Jersey RV Show that the walls of the large venue couldn’t contain them all. As reported by the Burlington County Times, the event will run Friday (Jan. 17) through Sunday at the New Jersey Convention Center in Edison.

“There was such a large demand for space that for the first time ever it will be an indoor/outdoor event,” show manager Anthony Tedesco said. GS Events will host the show at the Garden State Convention Center Friday through Sunday. The RV category is expanding. The industry prospered even through economic recession. It is a more affordable means of vacationing. A family can go to a campground for $25 or $30 a night compared to $100 and up for a hotel.”

A 2011 study sponsored by the Recreation Vehicle Industry Association (RVIA) showed that those age 35 to 54 posted the largest gains in ownership rates over the previous five years; 39% of RVers have children under 18 living at home.

“We have adjusted marketing to encompass that younger group,” Tedesco said. “Camping is affordable and entertaining for families with kids. They start out with a small RV and progress to larger units. They fall in love with the lifestyle and grow into larger, fancier units with more bells and whistles.”

“Small families can start out with a $10,000 unit that can be pulled behind their car, no need for a large pickup truck,” Tedesco said. “As the family grows, they can upgrade to a unit with more space for sleeping or a larger kitchen and bath. But even basic models have all the amenities you need.”
