Year-over-year Canadian towable retail sales declined for the second straight month, down 15.5% in November, while registrations for the first 11 months were up 3.5%. According to the latest report from Statistical Surveys Inc., results by segment showed:
• Sales in the travel trailer sector plunged 14.8% in November but gained 7.2% for the 11 months.
• Fifth-wheel sales decreased 13.8% for the month and 3.9% year-to-date.
• Folding camping trailer registrations declined 20% in November and 9.7% for the 11 months.
• Sales of recreational park trailers retreated 48.4% for the month and 16.7% year-to-date.
Thor Industries Inc. was the overall Canadian towables sales leader through November with a 35.7% market share, followed by Forest River Inc. (16.2%) and Jayco Inc. (15.5%). The Forest River Group, which includes the company’s towable building divisions in a “consolidated” report by Statistical Surveys, earned a 32.9% share year-to-date.
Thor was also the leader in travel trailer sales year-to-date holding a 33.9% market share while Jayco was No. 2 with a 17.3% share while Forest River held a 15.1% share.
Thor held a commanding lead in the Canadian fifth-wheel sector through November, capturing a 49.3% market share, with Forest River at No. 2 posting a 16.8% share followed by Forest River’s Palomino RV division at 9.3%. Thor was also No. 1 in park model sales with a 45.8% market share while General Coach was No. 2 (21.2%) and Forest River third (18.6%).
Forest River led Canadian folding camping trailer sales for the 11 months with a 31.3% market share while Jayco posted a 31% share and Forest River’s Coachmen RV division held a 21.4% share.
