Fire Forces Closure of La Mesa’s Sarasota Store

Multilocation dealership La Mesa RV Center announced the closing of its facility in Sarasota, Fla. According to a press release, the facility housed one of the largest air-conditioned indoor RV showrooms in the state. A fire broke out in the facility during the morning of Oct. 19, causing smoke damage to RVs and the building, which required certain repairs and remodeling in order to reopen. Charges Filed in Motorhome Timeshare Scheme

A Calgary woman is facing more than 60 charges in connection to a motorhome timeshare scheme that allegedly bilked clients out of more than $100,000. CTV News reported that an investigation was launched into an apparent Ponzi scheme following a tip through Crime Stoppers. RVIA: January Shipments Register 4.5% Growth

Wholesale shipments of all RVs continued to rise in January but at a slower pace than last year.  The Recreation Vehicle Industry Association (RVIA) reported that shipments totaled 25,467 units, 4.5% greater than the same month last year and the best January total since 2007. Severe weather across the country affected the ability to build, ship and sell new product in January this year and there is confidence of even better results in the coming months. Drew Industries Inc. today (Feb. 27) announced that its wholly-owned subsidiary, Lippert Components Inc., has acquired Innovative Design Solutions Inc. (IDS), a Troy, Mich.-based designer, developer and manufacturer of electronic systems encompassing a wide variety of RV applications. More than half (54.7%) of marine industry participants expect sales to increase 5% to 10% this year, according to survey results released today (Feb. 28) by GE Capital, Commercial Distribution Finance (CDF). Kelowna, British Columbia-based Northern Lite Truck and Campers is scrambling to keep their business afloat in the wake of a fire that destroyed operations. Report: House Republicans Taking Aim at CFPB

House lawmakers took aim at the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) on Thursday (Feb. 27), passing Republican-backed legislation that would curtail the power of the federal regulator. The Wall Street Journal reported that the bill passed by the House on a 232-182 vote, would replace the CFPB’s single director with a five-member board. Jayco to see Payback for Water System Upgrade

Development in Middlebury, Ind., including expansion at Jayco Inc., is the driver behind two big projects aiming to improve water pressure and jump start much needed upgrades at the town’s water treatment plant. SSI: ’13 Canadian Towable Sales Flat, Gain 3.2%

Year-over-year Canadian towable retail sales declined for the third straight month, down 27.9% in December, while registrations for the full year finished up 3.2%.
