Jayco to see Payback for Water System Upgrade
Development in Middlebury, Ind., including expansion at Jayco Inc., is the driver behind two big projects aiming to improve water pressure and jump start much needed upgrades at the town’s water treatment plant.
The Elkhart Truth reported that the town plans to correct a design flaw that has come to light as development in the area has outpaced Middlebury’s water distribution system. Water lines on Jayco’s complex and the southeastern part of the town’s water system come to a dead end. Jones, Petrie and Rafinski has done preliminary engineering work on the project to loop three of the water lines.
The town’s redevelopment commission adopted a resolution Thursday (Feb. 27) to use funds from the Elroy Tax Increment Finance, or TIF, District to reimburse Jayco for the water main looping project.
Two of the water lines are in the town’s Elroy Drive TIF District and one line is in Elkhart County’s Southeast TIF District. The total cost of the project is estimated at roughly $556,000.
While details have not been finalized, town manager Mark Salee said Jayco is willing to pay for part of the project in exchange for being paid back with TIF revenues over the next six years.
