The Recreation Vehicle Dealers Association (RVDA) of Canada will host a live web event entitled Cross-Cultural Apprentice Mentoring: Strategies for Success, slated for April 16 from 1-2 p.m. EDT.

This webinar, which is currently only available in English, offers valuable insights on the impact of culture and race on mentoring in the trades. Presented by diversity expert Maureen Brown, it examines four key challenges that can arise between apprentices and journey persons of different backgrounds and four strategies employers can use to get the best out of their investment in apprenticeship. Brown has also produced two webinars on the new ethnic consumer, created exclusively for the RVDA of Canada and is available to all members.

Forecasts show that by 2031, nearly a half of Canadians aged 15 and over will be foreign-born or will have at least one foreign-born parent. Canada is replenishing itself through immigration, but compared to the past, more than 80% of immigrants are coming from countries outside of Europe, particularly from Asia, the Middle East and Africa.

Since this trend is expected to continue, employers need new strategies to maximize their return on investment in grooming tomorrow’s tradespersons and in making the trades attractive to new immigrants.

This webinar lays out why employers need to take action and how they can increase the chances that their apprentices of different backgrounds will stay with them.
