TMC’s New Tuscany Embodies Residential Trend
The most consistent trend in Class A motorhomes right now – beyond the growing popularity of gas-powered coaches – is a continued push toward “residential” interiors across the board. Thor Motor Coach’s top-of-the-line 45-foot Tuscany 45AT, which debuted at the March 17-20 Family Motor Coach Association’s (FMCA) 89th Family Reunion and Motorhome Showcase at the Georgia National Fairgrounds & Agricenter in Perry, Ga., is a prime example.
“It was originally an idea that my engineer and I had to make some tweaks to our 45LT, which had been our best seller,” said Adam Gudger, national sales manager for TMC’s Diesel Division, of the new 2014 Tuscany, retailing in the $380,000 range. “We ended up making so many changes that we renamed the floorplan and it will replace the 45LT for our newest generation of coaches.”
Gudger and his colleagues kept tabs on the latest developments at kitchen and bath shows this past winter in designing the interior on the new Tuscany, which features LG HI-MACs solid surface countertops, porcelain tile flooring, a fireplace, an actual walkaround rear king bed, a large step-up rear bath and a 40-inch TV in the forward exterior section of a full-wall curbside slideout.
“We’ve been really focused on just trying to make these coaches more and more residential,” says Gudger of the Tuscany 45AT, assembled on a Freightliner chassis equipped with a 450-hp Cummins diesel engine, a 150-gallon fuel tank and independent front suspension. “We’ve continued to add enhancements to the product. We went with a bigger shower, a 100-inch, L-shaped sectional sofa, lots of countertop space in the galley, and a lot of storage. It has a 60-inch main living room television – the largest TV offered in the industry to date – and a curbside dinette with over 480 square feet of total interior living space. So, it’s very roomy.”
