Campground Association Execs Hold Meeting
Campground association executives from around 20 different states are expected to gather in Burleson, Texas, this week for the annual spring meeting of Campground Association Management Professionals (CAMP).
According to a news release, the CAMP meeting is taking place today (May 13) and Wednesday at the North Texas Jellystone Park in Burleson.
Tuesday’s program will include presentations by Bob Harris, an association management expert who will talk about strategic planning and risk management. Ron Hinkle, the legislative consultant to the Texas Association of Campground Owners (TACO), will talk about his work with state campground associations and the best way to engage a legislative consultant.
Wednesday’s program will include presentations by Clyde Taylor, a Fairport, N.Y.-based marketing consultant. Beverly Gruber, the state executive for the Pennsylvania Campground Owners Association (PCOA), will provide a seminar on conference facility selection, contracts and related planning.
The two-day meeting will conclude with a trip to a local gun range for a shooting experience and will be followed by a barbecue at the home of Brian Schaeffer, TACO’s executive vice president and CEO.
CAMP Vice President Michael Moore said the group normally meetings in the Washington, D.C., area while campground association executives are attending ARVC’s national issues conference. But since ARVC is not going to hold a conference in Washington this spring, CAMP members decided to have their meeting in Texas, he said.
“We thought it would be nice to have a change of venue and also make it more convenient for West Coast executives to attend,” Moore said.
CAMP’s executive committee includes President Don Bennett of Campground Owners of New York (CONY); Vice President Michael Moore of the Texas Association of Campground Owners (TACO); Treasurer Debbie Sipe of the California Association of RV Parks & Campgrounds (CalARVC); Secretary Bev Gruber of the Pennsylvania Campground Owners Associations (PCOA); and Past President Lori Severson of the Wisconsin Campground Owners Association (WACO).
CAMP is the nation’s only association specifically designed for campground association management executives.
“The purpose of our meetings is to get together and talk about the pertinent issues facing each of our associations,” Moore said. “We typically have the same issues and we try to discuss solutions we’ve come across. We’re the only ones that know what the other state associations are going through. So our CAMP meetings are always a good way to network and share ideas on what’s working and what’s not.”
