SSI: March Canadian Towable Sales Drop 4.6%
Year-over-year Canadian towable retail sales decreased 4.6% in March and 6.1% for the first quarter, according to the latest report from Statistical Surveys Inc.
Results by segment showed:
• Sales in the travel trailer sector fell 0.5% in March and 2.4% year-to-date.
• Canadian fifth-wheel sales declined 14.9% for the month and 14% through March.
• Folding camping trailer registrations declined 18.5% in March and 18.8% for the three months.
• Canadian sales of recreational park trailers were down 58.3% for the month and 70.8% year-to-date.
Thor Industries Inc. was the overall Canadian towables sales leader through March with a 34.7% market share, followed by Forest River Inc. (30.6%) and Jayco Inc. (15.3%).
Thor was also the leader in travel trailer sales for the three months, holding a 34.1% market share, while Forest River was No. 2 (28.4%) and Jayco was No. 3 with a 15.5% share.
Thor was the leader in the Canadian fifth-wheel sector year-to-date, capturing a 43.5% market share, with Forest River at No. 2 posting a 32.7% share followed by Jayco at 7.8%. In the park model sector, Thor held a 57.1% market share while Forest River, General Coach and Woodland Park each garnered a 14.3% share.
Forest River led Canadian folding camping trailer sales for the three months with a 64.9% market share while Jayco posted a 29.8% share.
