Ashton Shropshire, a rising college sophomore who’s worked summers at Dandy RV Superstore in Anniston, Ala., since 2011, is the recipient of the Mike Molino RV Learning Center Scholarship for academic year 2014-15. Endowed through the Kindlund Family Foundation, the $2,500 award goes to a deserving RV company employee or their dependent enrolled in undergraduate studies.

According to a press release, Shropshire attends the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, where she is majoring in public relations with a minor in marketing. She is a member of the National Society of Collegiate Scholars and was on the school’s Dean’s List for 2013. She hopes to intern in the RV industry and obtain employment in the field after college.

The RV Learning Center Scholarship Program recognizes deserving rising college sophomores, juniors and seniors. Applicants are judged on current RV industry involvement or their plan for employment in the industry upon graduation along with academic achievement, extracurricular activities and honors, financial need, and a 500-word essay on their goals and objectives in college. The program has awarded $60,000 to 24 students since its inception in 2000.

“Ashton’s background working at Dandy RV Superstore, along with her outstanding academic record, make her a worthy scholarship recipient,” said Newt Kindlund. “We are pleased to be able to honor someone who recognizes the unique potential of our industry and wants to use her education to continue her professional growth in the RV business.”

The Kindlund family, which endowed the scholarship program with $270,000, remains active in the RV industry even after selling its corporation, Holiday RV Superstores, in 1999. Newt Kindlund serves on the RV Learning Center board.

The RV Learning Center is a tax-exempt 501(c)(3) organization. Contributions may be tax-deductible as charitable donations.  Visit the Learning Center’s website for more information.
