Good morning all….I will attempt to post both some current events and also add catch up posts as time permits. There is much to share since our June 16 launch as we have been in 18 states and seen amazing landscape, cities and historical sites. We have become much more knowledgeable on American history and Beecher family roots.
Today we are on the road and have almost 250 miles to log to reach our destination much of which is on two lane US highways at 55 MPH. A wise man (yes it was Dave Russell again) said we needed to get off the interstate road system to really “Go Look for America”. So when time permits we are doing just that. And avoiding toll roads after paying a $24 toll in Baltimore followed by a $48 toll 20 minutes later. We have so much to learn to navigate the highways and bi-ways! Oh and did you know that in New York State a truck (which includes RVs) cannot drive on any road that has the word “Parkway” in its name…who would have thought ?!?
We spent 4 nights and 3 days in the Hudson River area near Hyde Park/Rhineback New York. We toured the Franklin Delano Roosevelt Library and family home, walked the grounds of the nearby Vanderbilt mansion both along the Hudson River, enjoyed the Rhinebeck farmers market (but nothing like our familiar California farmers markets or the roadside markets we found in Pennsylvania), attended church service at Grace Bible Fellowship Church (enjoyed the paster’s scripture-based sermon very much), toured West Point and enjoyed the Walkway over the Hudson…a 3 mile round trip walk on a converted old railroad bridge with amazing views of the Hudson River valley. Given we had OK internet service at our campground (let me emphasize OK…it is so frustrating when it takes 10 minutes to load 5 pictures from our iMac onto our blog to post), I did spend time getting the blog up and running. And Mark was feeling a bit off so slept a lot and watched the Bridgestone Invitational PGA golf tournament at Firestone Country Club on Sunday afternoon. With our Club Corp membership we were able to play the South course last Friday right before the tournament commenced so were interested in watching. We had an awesome time…and certainly a highlight.
On to Bath, NY for 5 nights to participate in the Wilkins Alzheimers Charity golf tournament, shopping and hair highlight/cut for Lori, wine tasting and meeting up with friends. Hope to go on to Buffalo (home of Buffalo wings), Niagara Falls and then into Canada for 21-30 days.
