screen-shot-2016-09-28-at-11-30-26-amA Tampa, Fla., company has introduced a new nontechnical training program to instruct RVers how to use their units safely.

Opened in April by Jeff and Lindsey Gaston and partners Mark and Letecia Young, My RV School provided instruction to more than a dozen RV owners at the mid-August Forest River Owners Group (FROG) rally in Elkhart, Ind.

“There’s such a need in the industry, not taking anything away from anyone else who offers training out there,” said Jeff Gaston, a 20-year U.S. Air Force veteran and former Lazydays RV employee.

The school offers RVers instruction on safe operation behind the wheel, hitching and unhitching trailers or towed cars, backing into campsites, setting up/tearing down a campsite, RV maintenance, holding tank maintenance and tire safety.

”We also can design specific training,”Gaston said. ”If someone has a fear about backing up, we’re going to custom tailor the training for that.”

RVers experiencing technical problems or in need of technical training will be referred to a local dealership, Gaston said.

My RV School, the slogan for which is ”Confidence for your Journey,” has three trainers and is looking for events in which to participate. ”We encourage people to plan an event and have us come to them,” Gaston said.

Individual training sessions typically are held at Tampa-area RV dealerships but trainers will travel throughout Florida for a nominal fee.

Trainers this summer attended rallies in Elkhart for irv2.com, an online RV owners’ forum, and in Greentown, Ind., for the Good Sam Indiana State Rally. Classes already are booked for an Escapees chapter rally in April in Yuba, Calif. ”We’re booked for other rallies and we have reached out to RV clubs,” he said.
