The town of Bristol, Ind., could have as many as 50 new jobs headed its way following a meeting of the Elkhart County Council Saturday (Sept. 9) morning.

The Goshen News reported that during the meeting, council members granted initial approval of a seven-year tax phase-in request by the Barletta Boat Co., a new manufacturer of pontoon boats led by President, co-owner and Managing Partner Bill Fenech, a former co-owner of Grand Design RV Co.

Fenech told that the company will be operating from a 110,000-square-foot manufacturing facility on 37 acres in Bristol. He said that his brother, Ron, and Don Clark, who partnered with Bill Fenech to co-found Grand Design, are silent investors in Barletta.

A tax phase-in is a partial or temporary exemption of a company from having to pay property taxes with the express purpose of stimulating economic development.

“This facility was previously occupied by Mark Line Industries and has been renovated and refurbished,” said Chris Stager, vice president of retention and expansion with the Economic Development Corp. of Elkhart County. “Barletta is a start-up premium pontoon boat manufacturer, and they are desiring to be one of the leading boat manufacturers in North America. Barletta will utilize a customer-focused, dealer-centric approach to deliver a one of a kind customer experience for pontoon boat buyers.”

Stager indicated that Barletta currently plans to spend approximately $1 million on new manufacturing equipment for the facility.
