Year-over-year towable sales continued to outpace 2016, posting a 9.8% gain for the first nine months, according to the latest report from Statistical Surveys Inc. (SSI).
Results by category showed:
- Sales for the travel trailer segment climbed 11.1% year-to-date.
- Fifth-wheel registrations were up 7.7% for the nine months.
- Folding camping trailer sales edged down 6.1% through September.
- Park model RV sales fell 4.3% year-to-date.
Thor Industries Inc. was the towable sales leader through September with 48.9% share of the market, ahead of Forest River Inc. owning a 36.5% share and Grand Design RV Co. (4.3%).
By segment, Thor was No. 1 in travel trailers for the nine months with a 49.2% market share, followed by Forest River with a 37.7% share. Thor led fifth-wheel sales with a 53.4% market share, followed by Forest River (28.7%) and Grand Design (11.2%).
In folding camping trailer sales, Forest River led the category through September with a 70.4% market share, followed by Columbia Northwest/Aliner Inc. and Thor, each posting an 11.5% share. Cavco Industries Inc. led the park model segment with a 22.4% market share, ahead of Kropf Manufacturing Co. Inc. (18.6%), Champion Home Builders (13.3%) and Skyline Corp. (12.2%).
