The U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation has recognized Thor Industries Inc. as a national leader in job growth and community development by presenting them with the first “Revitalize America Award.” Thor, one of three national businesses receiving the award, represents the mid-sized community tier.

Helping its region earn the title “RV Capital of The World,” Thor is a primary contributor to Elkhart County’s thriving economy. The county’s plummeting unemployment rate is currently under 4%, down from 19.3% in 2010.

“This honor is a testament to the great work being done by the thousands of people who together embody Thor Industries,” said Thor President and CEO Bob Martin. “The U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation is a storied organization, and we are grateful for their recognition of the employment opportunities we have been able to provide for the people of Elkhart and the investment into our community by our leaders, employees and subsidiaries of which we are so proud.”

This is the first year that the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation has given the “Revitalize America Award.” The award is designed to highlight businesses that are making a positive community impact through job growth, community leadership and private sector growth.

Thor is committed to continuing this trend of job creation in Elkhart County. In the past three years, Thor Industries has increased staffing by 44%, displaying the outlook of sustained future economic prosperity.

“We are fervently devoted to being a civic, economic and cultural leader for Elkhart County and America,” said Rick Schutt, Thor director of community engagement. “Whether we’re creating employment opportunities through positive business growth, building a Habitat for Humanity home, or sponsoring manufacturing education and innovation in our local high schools, we believe that investing in American business, communities and the next generation is the best investment we can make.”

Schutt accepted the “Revitalize America Award” on behalf of Thor in Washington, D.C., on Nov. 15 at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Citizens Awards gala.
