The 6th Annual RV Industry Power Breakfast, now one of the highlights of the annual business calendar for the recreational vehicle arena, will convene on the morning of May 3 at the Northern Indiana Event Center, part of the RV/MH Hall of Fame on the northeast side of Elkhart, Ind., according to spokesmen for the organizing committee.

Serving as a keynote speaker for this year’s Power Breakfast will be U.S. Sen. Joe Donnelly, a freshman Democrat who is expected to kick off his statewide reelection campaign at the annual industry breakfast – an event that last year drew more than 850 business, civic and political notables for a fast-paced program beginning at 7:15 a.m. Food service starts at 6:45 a.m. for early risers at the breakfast, which is sponsored by several firms and facilitated by RVBusiness magazine.

Donnelly, a resident of nearby Granger, Ind., is drawing plenty of national attention as a pivotal Democratic incumbent at a time when both the Republican and Democratic parties are vying for control of Congress. The breakfast will be held on the doorstep of the May 8 Indiana primary election in which six GOP candidates will vie for a chance to oppose Donnelly — a co-chair of the RV Caucus with Iowa Republican Sen. Joni Ernst — in this fall’s general off-year election.

The last two Power Breakfasts featured current Republican Gov. Eric Holcomb and then-Gov. Mike Pence, now vice president in the Trump administration.

Also speaking at this year’s breakfast will be Recreation Vehicle Industry Association (RVIA) President Frank Hugelmeyer, who plans to address an array of industry-related topics while unveiling elements of the Washington D.C.-based national trade association’s planned 2018 rebranding, along with spokesmen for Kampgrounds of America Inc. (KOA).

“There will be plenty of other updates between now and then with regard to the agenda, speakers and ticket sales,” said B.J. Thompson, president of Elkhart-based B.J. Thompson Associates, who chairs the ad hoc breakfast committee. “At the moment, though, we just wanted to give everyone a chance to pencil in the date and maybe plan to join us for a plate full of scrambled eggs and a program full of thought-provoking ideas for the year ahead.”
