Frank Hugelmeyer

In a letter today (Feb. 16) from Recreation Vehicle Industry Association (RVIA) President Frank Hugelmeyer, members were notified of another opportunity to hear firsthand the association’s concept for a new trade show set to debut in the spring of 2019.

The next briefing will be 9-10:30 a.m.March 1, in Champions Hall at the RV/MH Hall of Fame in Elkhart, Ind. Those who’d like to attend are asked to RSVP to Beverly Whitley via email at: bwhitley@rvia.org

At the same time, Hugelmeyer announced that RVIA’s Tradeshow and Events Committee has created an advisory group that will include dealers and other industry partners “to help shape and direct this new industry platform.”

With a working title of “RV Reveal,” the new event essentially replaces the National RV Trade Show in Louisville, Ky., which, citing a dwindling value as an order-writing show, was canceled by the RVIA board of directors in January.

“While it’s been just a short month since the decision,” Hugelmeyer wrote in the letter, “the announcement has created quite the buzz across in the industry and has resulted in much excitement around the idea of a totally new annual RV event. At the same time, the new direction has generated quite a few questions. To be honest, that is to be expected as there are many questions that still need answers.”

He went on to say that one of the biggest questions centers around “the event location and dates, and our staff is currently investigating options that will be reviewed with RVIA’s Tradeshow and Events Committee soon.”

Hugelmeyer added RVIA has reached out to key stakeholders and partners in the dealer community, including a series of meetings with individual companies and dealer groups, and that he would be presenting the event’s vision in March to the Recreation Vehicle Dealers Association (RVDA) board of directors.

“Please stay tuned for additional information from RVIA as we will be moving quickly to build an event that propels the entire RV industry forward, sets a path for our future, and celebrates the achievements of our $50 billion RV industry,” Hugelmeyer said.

Terrible idea nobody from my company will be attending. It’s prime time retail and show season in the Midwest. There is no way we are going to send Managers and salespeople to Elkhart and they definitely will not want to go
