Middlebury, Ind.-based Coachmen RV, a division of Forest River Inc., hosted its 51st Coachmen Owners Rally this week, drawing around 140 rigs to the Elkhart County Fairgrounds in Goshen, Ind. The rally opened opened Sunday (June 17) and will conclude Friday. (To view a slideshow scroll to the right side of the RVBUSINESS.com home page).
Among the gathering was a couple from Ohio who were attending their 48th consecutive rally. “This is our 48th straight rally and we are hoping to hit that 50th,” said Bob Workinger, a retired pattern maker.
The Workinger’s first rally was at Eby Pines, Bristol, Ind., in 1971 with their 20-foot Chaparral trailer in tow. The RV traveled to 17 rallies and their daughter used it for five more years, the couple noted. “We drove the wheels off of it,” said Darlene Workinger. The Chaparral now sits in a barn on their property in Ohio.
The rally agenda comprised scheduled trips to nearby attractions, including visits to the nearby Shipshewana Flea Market, a trip to South Bend, Ind., a golf outing to Black Squirrel Golf Course, and tours of the Coachmen plants. Activities on the campgrounds included crafts, games and seminars about the RV life. Several meals were part of the rally and free soft pretzels were available for attendees.
