SSI: Canadian Towables Gain 4.8% for 7 Months

Canadian towable sales gained 4.8% for the first seven months of 2018, according to the latest report from Statistical Surveys Inc. (SSI).

Results by segment showed:

• Travel trailer sales grew 5.7% year-over-year through July.

• Canadian fifth-wheel sales edged up 3.4% for the seven months.

• Folding camping trailer registrations fell 6.7% through July.

• Park model RVs fell 21.6% for the first seven months on low volume.

Thor Industries Inc. was the overall Canadian towable sales leader through July with a 53.2% market share, ahead of Forest River Inc. (33.8%) and Grand Design RV Co. (5.6%).

Thor was the leader in travel trailer sales for the seven months, claiming a 54.8% market share, followed by Forest River (33.8%) and Grand Design (3.6%). Thor was also No. 1 in Canadian fifth-wheel sales, capturing a 52.7% market share, followed by Forest River (25.7%) and Grand Design (16.9%).

Forest River led Canadian folding camping trailer sales through July with a 73% market share while Thor posted a 15.4% share. Woodland Park topped the park model RV segment with a 51% market share while Cavco Industries and Kropf Mfg. Co. Inc. both garnered a 17.2% share.
