President Trump signed a package of Miscellaneous Tariff Bills (MTBs) Thursday (Sept. 13) into law, legislation that will lower costs for outdoor companies. The MTBs will come into effect in 30 days.
Outdoor Industry Association (OIA) strongly supported the MTB package, according to a press release. Ten footwear MTBs submitted by OIA, covering a wide range of footwear, were included and will lower the tariffs on those products for three years. You can learn more about the footwear products here.
“This is great news for the $887 billion outdoor recreation economy. The MTB package will provide significant tariff relief for a number of outdoor products, including footwear, said OIA Executive Director Amy Roberts. “Outdoor companies have successfully utilized past MTB rounds to save more than $40 million, which led to lower costs, product innovation and more American jobs.”
MTBs reduce or suspend import duties on certain products, including inputs and some finished products, for three years. They are fully vetted to ensure that there is no domestic production and do not cost more than $500,000 each.
A new MTB round will begin in 2019 and OIA is soliciting ideas for new products to be covered.
