SSI: Canada Towable Sales Up 4.9% For 8 Months

Canadian towable sales gained 4.9% for the first eight months of 2018, according to the latest report from Statistical Surveys Inc. (SSI).

Results by segment showed:

• Travel trailer sales grew 5.8% year-over-year through August.

• Canadian fifth-wheel sales edged up 3.3% for the eight months.

• Folding camping trailer registrations fell 7.1% through August.

• Park model RV sales fell 14% for the first eight months on low volume.

Thor Industries Inc. was the overall Canadian towable sales leader through August with a 53.4% market share, ahead of Forest River Inc. (34.2%) and Grand Design RV Co. (5.7%).

Thor was the leader in travel trailer sales for the eight months, claiming a 54.9% market share, followed by Forest River (34.2%) and Grand Design (3.6%). Thor was also No. 1 in Canadian fifth-wheel sales, capturing a 53.4% market share, followed by Forest River (26.4%) and Grand Design (17%).

Forest River led Canadian folding camping trailer sales through August with a 73% market share while Thor posted a 15.4% share. Woodland Park topped the park model RV segment with a 51.4% followed by Cavco Industries (18.9%) and Forest River (13.5%).
