One of the busiest people on the trade show floor during the 2018 RV Dealers Convention/Expo at the Paris Las Vegas, has been Dustin Johns, president of Travel Lite RV. The towables and truck camper manufacturer brought two models of its Evoke travel trailer – including the all-new X Series – and Johns stayed busy as dealer after dealer wanted a personal tour of the lightweight, aerodynamic units.

“I took a lot of time developing the Evoke – nine months – and there are a lot of industry firsts,” Johns told “It’s the most aerodynamic travel trailer market on the market right now, and the fact that we have the wheels protruding from the body is innovative. At 102 inches, it literally has a wider wheel stance than the 8-foot wide body. We took it to the legal limit, which makes it more stable and sturdy for the towing. We’re the first to do that.”

The Evoke X Series is basically a shorter version of the Evoke line. The five models in the full-size Evoke range from 25 to 38 feet and the six-model X Series comes in lengths from 20 feet to 27 feet. Retail prices start at less than $30,000 for the full-size Evoke while the X Series carries a base MSRP of $19,450.

Johns listed a lengthy list of other Evoke features, including pontoon-style woven vinyl flooring, color-changing LED lighting, Furrion appliances, Michelin tires and fiberglass sides, ends and front caps — as opposed to the aluminum siding shown at its Open House debut.

He noted that every unit is undergoing a PDI by an independent company prior to being shipped to dealers, and Travel Lite is adding an optional five-year warranty – no exclusions except for normal wear and tear – that dealers can offer customers in place of the standard one-year warranty.

“This is one of those things where I’m putting my money where my mouth is,” Johns offered.

Indeed, the family-owned company is in the midst of a historic transformation of sorts. In addition to the launch of the Evoke line, Travel Lite has announced several personnel additions to key management positions over the last several weeks and, in about a month, will celebrate the grand opening of its new corporate offices and production facility on a campus at a Syracuse, Ind., industrial park located about five miles east of the company’s long-time New Paris, Ind., headquarters.

“I believe in what we’re doing with all my heart, and when we’ve done our interviews with these people who have been in companies for 10, 20 years in a row, they feel it. They sense it. We’re doing things the right way,” Johns said. “We’re starting with the warranty side. We’re starting with the quality side. We’re starting with the things that people are avoiding, facing it head on and then backing it with a product that no one has and a vision for product that no one does.”
