Post-Recession Changes Help Drive Shipments

For the 32nd straight month, recreational vehicle shipments have surpassed figures from the same month the year prior, according to the Recreation Vehicle Industry Association (RVIA). The South Bend Tribune reported that a total of 26,441 units were shipped in August, a 5.8% increase compared with August of 2013. RV Tax Proposal to Boost Wash. Parks Funding

A task force appointed by the Washington State governor recommends bringing back two unpopular taxes to help fund state parks and the outdoor recreation industry.According to The Associated Press, the report from the Blue Ribbon Task Force on Parks and Outdoor Recreation recommends a sales tax on bottled water and an excise tax on motorhomes and travel trailers. They could collect $100 million in the next two-year budget. Report: Consumer Spending, Income up in Aug.

Consumer spending rebounded in August as employment gains revived household earnings growth and encouraged Americans to return to shops and car dealerships. Bloomberg reported that the 0.5% increase in purchases was more than forecast and followed little change in July, Commerce Department figures showed today in Washington. Incomes also advanced, rising 0.3% last month as wages and salaries climbed the most in three months. KOA Finds New Location for Las Vegas Facility

Boyd Gaming Corporation and Kampgrounds of America Inc. (KOA) today (Sept. 29) announced a long-term agreement that will make Sam’s Town Hotel & Gambling Hall the new home of the Las Vegas KOA. Under terms of the lease agreement, KOA will assume operations of Sam’s Town RV Park, one of the largest and most well-known RV parks in the Las Vegas Valley. August wholesale shipments to retailers continued to cruise along, rising 5.8% above this same month last year to 26,441 units. As with recent months, towable RVs reflected the largest unit gains while motorhomes grew by the largest percentage gain. Elkhart Bus Maker AmeriTrans Adding a Facility

An Elkhart, Ind.-based bus maker plans to open a second manufacturing plant in nearby Nappanee, creating 73 new jobs by 2016. The Elkhart Truth reported that AmeriTrans Bus Inc., a subsidiary of Fairbault, Minn.-based ABC Cos., will invest $2.17 million to lease, renovate and equip a 110,000-square foot facility in Nappanee, according to a press release issued by the Indiana Economic Development Corp.
