Elkhart, Ind.-based Patrick Industries Inc. announced today (Nov. 10) that it has completed the acquisition of the business and certain assets of Charleston Corp. for approximately $9.6 million. According to a press release, Charleston is a Bremen, Ind.-based manufacturer of fiberglass and plastic components primarily used in the recreational vehicle, marine and vehicle aftermarket industries. Forest River Inc., a Berkshire Hathaway company, and publicly held Thor Industries Inc. yesterday (Nov. 4) announced the establishment of an unprecedented community foundation set up to benefit the 15,000-plus employees of the two RV-building corporate giants and their families during times of need. Drew Industries Inc., parent to Elkhart, Ind.-based supplier Lippert Components Inc., reported higher earnings and a 17% increase in sales for its third quarter, lifted by strong performance in the RV sector and revenue from acquisitions during the past year. RVIA: Sept. Shipments up 10.5%; Best in 7 Years

RV manufacturers reported shipments to retailers of 24,869 units in September this year which were 10.5% greater than this same month one year ago.  This was the highest September total in seven years with gains recorded in all vehicle categories. Seasonally adjusted, shipments in September were at an annualized rate of more than 340,000 units.
