RVIA: Feb. Shipments Grow 9.2%; Best on Record

The Recreation Vehicle Industry Association (RVIA) reported that the February survey of manufacturers found RV wholesale shipments finished at 43,038, an increase of 9.2% from the 39,428 units shipped last February. The February 2018 shipment total is the best February on comparable record. All towable RVs, led by conventional travel trailers, totaled 37,481 units for the month, an increase of 10.8% compared to last February’s towable RV shipment total of 33,822. RVIA Voices Opposition For Trump’s Trade Tariffs

This afternoon, President Trump signed two proclamations that go into effect on March 23 imposing a 25% tariff on steel imports and a 10% tariff on imported aluminum. As Trump had hinted earlier this week, both Mexico and Canada are temporarily exempt from the new tariffs — exemptions that could be extended if he is satisfied with the progress in renegotiation of the North America Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA). Thor Posts Record 2Q Results; Sales Grow 24.1%

Elkhart, ind.-based Thor Industries Inc. announced record second-quarter results as sales grew 24.1% to $1.97 billion compared with $1.59 billion a year ago. Net income during the period, ended Jan. 31, totaled $79.8 million, or $1.51 per diluted share, compared with $64.8 million, or $1.23 per share a year ago. RVIA Joins Opposition to Proposed Trump Tariffs

President Donald Trump announced Thursday (March 1) that he will impose new tariffs on steel and aluminum as early as next week. As reported by CNBC, the U.S. will set tariffs of 25% for steel and 10% for aluminum. RVIA: January Shipments Post 25.3% YOY Gain

The Recreation Vehicle Industry Association’s (RVIA) January survey of manufacturers found RV wholesale shipments finished at 42,441, an increase of 25.3% from the 33,859 units shipped last January. The January 2018 shipment total is the best January on comparable record. All towable RVs, led by conventional travel trailers, totaled 36,322 units for the month, an increase of 26.6% compared to last January’s towable RV shipment total of 28,931.
