RVIA: June Shipments Record 3.2% YOY Gain

Shipments to retailers of all RV products were reported at 27,534 units in the June survey of manufacturers, a decline of 5.3% compared to last month but an increase of 3.2% over this same month last year. Towable RVs improved 3.7% on shipments of 25,208 units while motorhome shipments were off 1.4% on 2,326 units shipped to dealers in June. Seasonally adjusted, June’s total represented an annualized rate of 270,000 units. Year to date, shipments of all RVs were reported at 154,988 units and were ahead of the halfway point last year by almost 11,000 units. Through June, towable RVs led the way, increasing 8.6% over this same period a year ago on shipments of 140,412 units while motorhomes were off 1.2% on shipments of 14,576 units.

RVIA: May Shipments Record 4.9% YOY Growth

Wholesale shipments of all RVs were reported at 29,079 units in the May survey of manufacturers, up 4.9% over this same month last year. Towable RVs provided the greater unit improvements while motorhomes had a higher percentage change. Seasonally adjusted, the May total represented an annualized rate of nearly 294,000 units, an 11.8% increase over last month and the highest rate so far this year. Through the first five months this year, total RV shipments have now reached 127,454 units, up 8.6% compared to this same period last year. All vehicle types have enjoyed shipment growth this year with the exception of folding camping trailers and Class C motorhomes which are both only slightly behind.

Towables Push April Shipments to 9.8% Gain

RV wholesale shipments to retailers of 27,000 units were reported in the April RVIA survey of manufacturers, 9.8% more than this same month last year. Towable RVs rose to 24,500 units in April, a gain of 12.4% over April one year ago while motorhome shipments were off 10.7% this month to 2,500 units. On a seasonally adjusted basis, shipments in April were at an annual rate of 262,700 units, slightly less than the previous month but well ahead of the annual total in 2011 of 252,300 units.

Year to date, shipments of all RVs through April this year were at 98,400 units, up 9.7% over the first four months last year with all the gain coming from improved towable shipments. Although motorhomes were off 3.1% through April, shipments were down just 300 units compared to this same period last year.

RVIA: Shipments Gain 2.2% in March, 9.7% YTD

Wholesale shipments to retailers of all RVs were reported at 28,100 units in the March 2012 survey of manufacturers conducted by RVIA. This was the best March total since 2008 and 2.2% ahead of this same month last year. Improvements were largely the result of gains in fifth-wheels with small losses to truck campers and Class A motorhomes.

Through the first three months this year, total RV shipments increased to 71,400 units, a gain of 9.7% over the same period last year. On a seasonally adjusted basis, shipments in March this year were at an annualized rate of nearly 270,000 units with towable categories responsible for most of the improvement.

Feb. Shipments Up Sharply, Show 24% YOY Gain

RV shipments to retailers rose sharply in February, climbing 31.8% above last month and up 24.2% ahead of this same month last year.

The 24,600 units reported in the latest survey of manufacturers marked the best February total in four years for all RV products and raised the first two month’s total this year 15.2% above the same period one year ago.

On a seasonally adjusted basis, February shipments were at an annual rate of more than 286,000 units, a gain of 12.9% over the January rate.

For the first two months of 2012, shipments were ahead of last year by 15.2% on shipments of 43,300 units. Shipments of towable RVs have improved 17% to 39,200 units while motorhome products have held their own and produced 4,100 units so far this year.

RV Shipments Start Year on High Note, Grow 5%

RV wholesale shipments to retailers were reported at 18,700 units in the Recreation Vehicle Industry Association’s (RVIA) January 2012 survey of manufacturers, 5.1% greater than the total shipped during this same month last year. The gain was largely in conventional travel trailer shipments with truck campers and Class B motorhomes ahead on smaller volumes. This was the best January total recorded since 2008.

December Shipments Off 7.7%, End 2011 Up 4.1%

RV wholesale shipments for all of 2011 reached 252,300 units in 2011, up 4.1% over 2010’s year-end total. Towable RVs were higher while motorhomes totals were slightly lower. All towable RVs climbed to 227,500 units in 2011, up 4.8% compared to one year ago. During the same period, all motorhomes were slightly less in 2011 than 2010, finishing at 24,800 units for all of 2011, off 1.6% from their annual total one year earlier.

For December, wholesale shipments of all RVs were reported at 16,900 units , 3.6% better than November’s total but 7.7% less than this same month the prior year. Shipments of both towable and motorhome categories were less in December compared to one year ago with only travel trailers greater than December 2010. On a seasonally adjusted annual rate basis, December shipments were just over 283,000 units, slightly lower than the November rate. See the entire report below.

RV Shipments Show 22% YOY Gain in November

Shipments to retailers in November this year were 16,300 units, up 21.6% from this same month last year. On a seasonally adjusted annual rate basis, November’s total represented shipments of more than 290,000 units, an increase of 13.8% over the previous month and ahead of November last year by 22.5%. Towable RVs were up 27.1% over this month one year ago while all motorhome totals slipped 18.8% in the November survey of manufacturers. Year to date, all RV shipments to retailers tracked by RVIA have now reached 235,400 units for the year, up 5.1% over this same period last year.

RVIA: Towables Fuel Rise in October Shipments

Wholesale shipments of all RVs were reported at 19,100 units in the Recreation Vehicle Industry Association’s (RVIA) October 2011 survey of manufacturers, ahead of last month by 12.4% and 15.1% ahead of this same month last year. Gains were recorded in both conventional and fifth-wheels with other categories even with or slightly less than the totals reported for those categories in October 2010.

Year-to-date, total shipments rose to 219,100 units through October this year, up 4% from this same 10-month period last year. Towable RV units increased by 4.3% while motorhomes were up 1.4% through October. On a seasonally adjusted basis, all RV shipments were at an annualized rate of 247,800 units through October this year.

Shipments were apparently boosted by Elkhart County’s 4th Annual RV Open House Week along with the aggressive finance programs introduced during the Sept. 19-23 event.

September Shipments Flat, Motorhomes Down

Wholesale shipments of all RVs were reported at 17,000 units in the September survey of manufacturers, representing a 1.8% increase compared with September 2010 and a 19% decline from August 2011. On a seasonally adjusted basis, shipments in September were at an annualized rate of 224,000 units. A total of 200,000 units have been shipped to RV retailers so far this year, an improvement of nearly 3.1% compared to this same period last year. Both towable RVs and motorhomes reported small improvements compared to the first nine months of 2010.
