Several of the rare RVs that were rebuilt and redesigned with unique interiors and wild exterior designs from the popular “Rock My RV With Bret Michaels” reality television show will be on display at this year’s 61st Annual California RV Show at the Fairplex in Pomona, Oct. 11-20.
According to a press release, the RVs revamped on the show had to more than 10 years old and still being used by the owners. Each owner had to allow Michaels and his team of engineers and designers to scrap the interiors and start from an empty shell.
RVs that will be on display in Pomona include:
• The first RV to be redesigned was Dan Caldwell’s Tapout. The RV has a gatling gun mounted on the roof that doesn’t fire bullets, but shoots out T-shirts. A one-of-a-kind spiral stairway allows the owner to get to the top of the RV – a first for this rebuild.
• An RV called Gypsy, owned by photographer Meeno Peluce, was gutted and a rear slideout was built to give this RV an unusual bed that looks like a gypsy’s caravan. The exterior graphics also reflect that gypsy theme.
• The Scum Scouts RV, a Coachmen model owned by Tracy and Juanita Mendonsa, was a special dedication to their son, Zach, who passed away. His drawing of a Scum Scout was used as the exterior graphics while the interior had all the bright colors in Zach’s design.
The Pomona show, produced by the Recreation Vehicle Industry Association (RVIA), will feature more than 1,000 RVs and 45 manufacturers, including the largest selection of toy haulers ever assembled in a single place. Seventeen RV dealers will display at the show, which also offers entertainment, food and educational seminars, including the informative RV factory showcase. The show provides a free trolley and also offers mobility scooters, wheelchairs and kids wagons for rent at the entrance.
From childhood road trips in his family’s Winnebago to touring the U.S. in his own custom coach, rock musician Bret Michaels is the ultimate road dog who has logged more than 3 million miles in RVs.
BWWTVWorld reported that as a hands-on aficionado, Michaels knows the ins and outs of the RV lifestyle and now, for the first time, he’s sharing this passion and expertise with travelers and RV fans everywhere in Travel Channel’s new original series, “Rock My RV” with Bret Michaels, premiering May 26 at 9 p.m. ET/PT.
The 16 episode series – 15 half-hours and a special one-hour finale – will debut with back-to-back episodes, and kick off Travel Channel’s “We Are Summer” multi-platform programming initiative. Each episode will feature the transformation of one of 16 beaten and bruised RVs into a customized RV – culminating in a show-stopping reveal – designed and Built under the direction of RV enthusiast Michaels.
The series will be complemented by an online contest, “Rock My RV with Bret Michaels: Epic RV Giveaway Contest,” in which one lucky viewer will have the opportunity to win their very own custom-built RV designed by Michaels. From June through July, fans can submit their video entry through TravelChannel.com, and the winner will be revealed as part of the show’s one-hour finale. More entry details to follow this summer when the contest officially launches.
“I am a self-proclaimed ‘drealist’ – a dreamer and a realist – and consider myself to be the ultimate RV adventurer,” says Michaels, front man for the rock band Poison. “For me, RVs are so much more than just a mode of transportation – they’re a tradition and a huge part of both my personal and professional life.
“Some of my best childhood memories are from RV road trips, and a pastime I now share with my own kids. This is a passion project for me. We’re doing things that have never been done before. I’m amped to work with each of the owners and take their RV experience to rock star status.”
