August 21, 2014 by · Leave a Comment

Screen Shot 2014-08-21 at 11.04.57 AMRenting RVs can be a financially rewarding enterprise so long as dealers know how to effectively manage a few common legal and regulatory challenges facing rental operators. A full track of education workshops at the RV Dealers International Convention/Expo will educate dealers about ways to avoid common pitfalls that can trip up a rental operation and get in the way of profits, according to a written announcement from the Recreation Vehicle Dealers Association (RVDA).

Dealers will have access to a leading legal expert in the field, attorney Leslie Pujo, who will participate in three sessions. In addition, fleet management veteran and rental software consultant Randall Jeremiah will present two education sessions highlighting rental trends and how to drive profits. The convention/expo takes place Nov. 10-14 at Bally’s in Las Vegas and the theme for 2014 is “Passport to Excellence: Education & Training.”

Pujo, of LaPlaca Pujo PC, will have expert guidance and for those drafting rental agreements, using electronic reservations systems, and damage recovery — key areas where dealers need careful guidance to mitigate risk. Pujo’s legal practice focuses primarily on rental law and franchise law and she oversees the editing and publications of the Federal and State Guide to Vehicle Rental Law, so dealers are getting access to a leading name in the field when they attend this track.

Pujo will present “Devil in the Details: Drafting Rental Agreements,” on Tuesday, Nov. 11 at 1:15 p.m. The hour-long education workshop will offer attendees a deeper understanding of the nuts and bolts of RV rental agreements and map out the regulatory minefield governing rental agreements. She’ll recount actual regulatory situations dealers have endured and offer practical advice for ways rental operators can avoid the same fate. Participants will come away with knowledge of how to properly use multi-part rental agreements and addenda; rules about taxes, fees, and other charges to be aware of; and the variety of state-required disclosures.

“Law and Disorder: RV Edition,” scheduled for Wednesday, Nov. 12, will also feature Pujo and will offer participants an understanding of the variations in state law on common topics that affect all rental companies, including damage recovery, insurance priority, rental agreement disclosures, and use of GPS tracking devices.

A panel discussion will take place next, 3:15 p.m.-4:15 p.m., entitled, “Your Biggest Issues & Challenges: Ask the Experts Panel Discussion.” Bert Alanko of MBA Insurance Inc., Scott Krenek of Krenek RV Center and chairman of the RV Rental Association, Brad Bacon of PleasureLand RV Center, and Pujo will serve as panelists in a discussion that will encourage peer-to-peer learning and give attendees access to panelists’ expertise in addressing real-world topics of interest and concern to rental operators.

Themed “Passport to Excellence: Education & Training,” the convention program has been enriched to reflect the importance of training and education for all dealership staff, with programs for young executives and a special emphasis on digital marketing and social media.  Back for a second year, Vendor Training +Plus on Monday and Tuesday will offer more training opportunities, followed by track workshops for dealer/GMs and managers in sales, service, parts, and rental operations.

Randall Jeremiah, a rental management and software expert, will present two workshops on Thursday, Nov. 13. “RV Market Trends” from 9 a.m.-10 a.m. will explore the new demographics of who’s renting RVs, from younger families to Europeans vacationing in North America. At 2:15 p.m. “How to Design Your Rental Fleet for Maximum ROI,” will provide formulas and metrics for multiple different styles of RVs used for rentals. Attendees will learn how to integrate tent trailers, travel trailers, Class A, Class B, Class C motorhomes as well as other variations of units. The primary aspect of this session, will be to educate those in the rental business as well as those thinking of starting a rental business. All attendees can expect to bring home ideas on how to make a profitable rental income and meet all potential clients’ needs.

The 2014 convention will feature an exhibit hall filled with the RV industry’s top companies offering products and services to help dealers improve profitability. In addition, RVDA’s Partners in Progress committees will meet to work on important dealer-manufacturer issues.

RVDA Confab Offers Parts, Service Workshops

July 14, 2014 by · Leave a Comment

RVDA convention logoDealers know a superior parts and service experience is a major factor driving return business and repeat buyers. Accordingly, the 2014 RV Dealers International Convention/Expo has a track of parts and service workshops offering proven methods for ramping up profits, exceeding customer satisfaction, and boosting departmental performance to new heights.

According to a press release, six hour-long workshops are already confirmed with more in the works and most will feature first-time presenters with fresh ideas.  “Passport to Excellence: Training and Education” is the convention theme and the program is geared to educate all top dealership staff from dealers and GMs to all fixed operations managers. The convention takes place Nov. 10-14 at Bally’s in Las Vegas and registration rates encourage bringing more staff for education. After the first registrant, the rate drops for others from the same dealership. It pays to bring more staff and to register early as rates go up later this summer.

Workshops for parts and service are confirmed on TuesdayWednesday, and Thursday, with several of the most popular topics being repeated so attendees won’t need to miss one great session to attend another. The new hour-long format is designed to keep the sessions lively and focused so participants stay engaged and are learning throughout the session.

Featured presenters are Don Tipton, Bob Clements, and Don Reed – all recognized experts in dealership operational improvement and excellence. They were chosen by the Convention Committee for their ability to bring a new perspective to their subject that will meet dealership training needs.

Clements specializes in training and helping clients to create high performing dealerships and organizations. He is the author of “The Eight Greatest Sales Secrets in the World,” and a contributing writer for three national publications. He will present “Creating a High Performance Parts Department,” on Thursday from 9-10 a.m.and “Turn Your Service Department into a Cash Machine,” from 12:15–1:15 p.m., and again from 2:15–3:15 p.m.

Reed will present workshops on Tuesday and Wednesday of the convention. With 26 years of success in all aspects of a dealership — from parts manager to dealer principal – Reed is a big proponent of teamwork. “Achieve 100 Percent Shop Productivity in 30 Days” will be presented on Tuesday from 1:15–2:15 p.m. On Wednesday, Reed will present a session called “Managing the Eight Essential Controllables for Record Profits.”

Tipton’s first session, “What Service Measurables Really Mean,” will be presented from 9–10 a.m. on Thursday. A sought-after fixed operations consultant, Tipton’s expertise in dealership management spans every aspect, from undercoating vehicles to management in multi-location shops. He will also present a workshop on “Signature RV Service” the same day, from 3:30-4:30 p.m.

Themed “Passport to Excellence: Education & Training,” the convention program has been expanded to include training and education for all dealership staff, with programs for young executives and a special emphasis on digital marketing and social media. Back for a second year, Vendor Training +Plus on Monday and Tuesdayoffer product or program specific training opportunities, followed by educational track workshops for Dealer/GMs and managers in sales, service, parts, and rental operations.

The 2014 convention will feature an exhibit hall filled with the RV industry’s top companies offering products and services to help dealers improve profitability. In addition, RVDA’s Partners in Progress committees will meet to work on important dealer-manufacturer issues.

The expanded training and exhibits increase the convention’s value for all dealership management. To encourage dealers to bring more staff, the registration rate has been kept low, with discounts for additional staff members.  RVDA also continues to offer helpful registration payment plans, including an easy pay plan of three payments and the ability to lock in early rates for additional employees with one paid convention registration.

RVDA Seeks Workshop Entries for Convention

April 18, 2014 by · Leave a Comment

Passport-6-transparentThe Recreation Vehicle Dealers Association’s (RVDA) Convention/Expo Committee is soliciting proposals for education workshops for the 2014 RV Dealers International Convention/Expo, offering more than 50 opportunities for presentations between Tuesday and Friday before the top RV retailers in North America.

The Convention/Expo, Nov. 10-14 at Bally’s on the Las Vegas Strip, is the premier education and training event for RV dealers from the U.S. and Canada. This year’s theme is “Passport to Excellence: Education & Training.” Speaking at the Convention/Expo provides an outstanding opportunity to meet face-to-face with a broad cross-section of RV industry professionals.

First-time speakers are especially encouraged to make proposals because dealers come to this event seeking fresh ideas and new perspectives. The deadline for submissions is May 12 and full information on guidelines is available on the RVDA Convention website.

The committee will select presenters offering attendees useful ‘how to’ and actionable information. They are especially interested in workshops that will address inventory management, finding the profit in cash transactions, advanced topics for the service department, customer loyalty, key results areas and metrics, social media and digital marketing, market trends, leadership, succession planning, employee motivation and compliance.

The event is open to a wide spectrum of speakers from within and outside the RV industry. In all cases, the Convention/Expo Committee looks for proven experts, especially those who can attract and engage attendees. To ensure the timeliness, quality and credibility of the program, the committee works to include a number of first-time RVDA presenters and limits workshops from speakers that present year after year. Member surveys confirm that one of the top reasons our members choose to attend the annual convention/expo is the number of workshops with new topics and new speakers.

RVDA will broadly promote speaking engagements RVDA to dealers through e-mail, the RVDA web site, print, telemarketing, social media and other campaigns resulting in broad exposure for the education program including individual speakers and sessions.

This solicitation is for the non-promotional and non-proprietary educational component of the event. The workshops will be Tuesday afternoon through 10:30 a.m. Friday.

RVDA’s Convention/Expo brings together dealers and dealership personnel from across North America. RVDA expects this year’s attendance will include dealer principals and team members from more than 200 dealerships, with total attendance exceeding 1,000.

Companies interested in partnership, sponsorship opportunities, participating in Vendor Training +plus, and exhibitor information can contact RVDA at (703) 591-7130, ext. 103 or send an e-mail to jnewhouse@rvda.org.

Visit www.rvda.org/convention to register for the convention and for regular updates. The industry can also get updates by following the convention on LinkedIn, Twitter, and Facebook.
