Motorhome mania has hit Indio, Calif., known as the “City of Festivals.”
At least 2,600 people in 1,300 motorhomes had arrived by Wednesday (Jan. 6) to attend the 22nd Annual Western Motor Home Association rally at the county fairgrounds, according to The Desert Sun, Palm Springs, Calif.
“The Glorious Days of the Silver Screen” rally features seminars, evening entertainment, vendors and a parade “to celebrate the RV lifestyle,” said Bobby Donald, president of the Western Motor Home Association, a chapter of the Family Motor Coach Association (FMCA).
The rally runs through Jan. 10.
Pamela Kay, FMCA’s director of communications, told RVBUSINESS.COM that the Indio rally ranks with the southeast rally, set for Feb. 3-7 in Brooksville, Fla., as two of the biggest FMCA regional rallies of the year. A large percentage of FMCA members live in or near California, makign the rally popular each year. This year’s attendance is on par with previous years, she said.
It’s too early to forecast whether the good turnout at Indio this week is an indicator of a strong season, she said, but added, “We’re hoping for a good year.”
Temperatures were in the mid 70s today, making the site desirable for Snow Birds, she added.
