“GMC Project RV,” an undertaken by “RV Buddies,” is well underway at Applied GMC in Fremont, Calif.

“After demolition was completed, the crew at Applied GMC cleaned up the mess and found a good foundation for the project to begin,” says Mark Summers, producer for “RV Buddies,” an online show about the RV industry. “Now the hard work begins — but the fun will be seeing the project being born each step of the way.”

Applied GMC is a specialty shop dedicated to the GMC motorhome. Jim Kanomato, an engineer and the owner of Applied GMC, is overseeing all the chassis aspects of this project. The shop is installing the best and newest available GMC motorhome gear on the 1976 unit.

This phase of the project includes all the chassis work, with the suspension and braking system being the first to be tackled. The engine work along with the front-wheel-drive assembly will be done separately.

Applied GMC is installing its “Quadra-bag” rear air suspension system which updates the original GMC design to use current, available air bags. At the same time this modification gives the RV six-wheel independent suspension.

The rear drum brakes are replaced with an optional disc system, the fronts upgraded and a new master cylinder and sensitized power brake booster are also installed. With this additional breaking capability, a “Chuck Aulger” rear anti-skid kit is also fitted to keep the coach firmly planted on the road.

The complete story with photos is now on “RV Buddies” at www.RVBuddies.net. Video of each aspect of the installation will follow beginning in 2011. For more information about Applied GMC, visit their website at www.AppliedGMC.com.
