After years of being on Indiana 38 near Tippecanoe Mall in Lafayette, Ind., Bill Gardiner’s RV Supercenter has a new home.
Bill Gardiner’s RV Sales reopened with a slightly changed name on Veterans Memorial Parkway East, near Interstate 65 on Aug. 1, the Lafayette Journal and Courier reported.
His new location has a much smaller building but a more visible location at 510-B Veterans Memorial Parkway East.
With recent sales of larger diesel RVs slumping, Gardiner was feeling the financial strain of operating out of a large facility.
“Before, I had six acres and 70,000 square feet of building,” he said. “Now I’ve got 8,000 square feet of building on four acres.”
Heating and cooling, maintenance, insurance and all other associated costs of running his business have dropped significantly. “I just wanted to downsize,” he said.
The new location has an added benefit. “I’ve always wanted to be on the Interstate,” he said.
Although there is not an exit at Veterans Memorial Parkway, there is at nearby Indiana 26.
Moreover, the merchandise on his lot can be seen by the tens of thousands of motorists who drive by on I-65.
“We’re getting traffic from off the Interstate now,” he said.
A smaller facility doesn’t mean fewer services, he said. “We’re doing everything we did at the old location,” he said. That includes RV sales, rentals, service, accessories as well as buying used RVs.
With his new location being much smaller, he doesn’t have room for many of the materials he’d amassed over the years at the old location.
“So I’m having an auction,” he said.
Scheduled for 9:30 a.m., Sept. 11 at his old store, 3600 Indiana 38 East, the auction will include RV parts, accessories, and numerous non-RV-related items.
“There’s really all kinds of things,” he said. “I’d have a hard time telling everything that I’ve got.”
