Cabela’s, a major outfitter of hunting, fishing and outdoor gear, recently presented a $25,000 donation to benefit Kampgrounds of America Inc. (KOA) Care Camps for children with cancer.
According to a press release, the check was presented at the Cabela’s store in Billings, Mont., to KOA President Pat Hittmeier and Lorne Armer, KOA vice president of brand development, by Cabela’s Regional Marketing and Events Manager Drew Steinberger.
“We’re so proud to be able to do what we can to help such a worthy cause,” said Steinberger. “We at Cabela’s are dedicated to helping people enjoy the outdoors, so it just seems fitting that we are able to help these deserving kids experience a summer camp.”
KOA Care Camps is a network of 56 specialized summer camps located throughout North America. The camps provide a true summer camping experience for children with cancer and their siblings, while allowing the children to continue their treatments. The camps are each staffed with trained medical personnel and volunteers and serve thousands of children each summer.
KOA and its franchise owners throughout North America have raised more than $5 million in recent years to benefit Care Camps.
“KOA Care Camps continues to enrich the lives of thousands of young people every year by giving them memorable camping experiences,” said Cabela’s CEO Thomas Millner in a recent statement. “Cabela’s enthusiastically supports those efforts and is proud to promote the Great Outdoors alongside KOA.”

The Pennsylvania Campground Owners Association (PCOA) is teaming up with national outdoors retailer Cabela’s in Hamburg, Pa., to promote the camping lifestyle on April 28-29. According to a press release, “Get Outdoors and Go Camping…It’s Easy” will serve as the theme for the promotion.
Members of PCOA will be on hand to greet the guests and give them a 2012 Campground Directory of privately owned parks. RVs supplied by Family Camping, Pottstown, Pa., will be on display while expert outfitters from Cabela’s will be demonstrating the newest camping products available and helping campers gear up for their next trip.
“Camping is not only the most affordable vacation around, it also is fun and memorable. In Pennsylvania you have over 235 campgrounds to choose from to make that memory,” said Beverly Gruber, PCOA executive director. “Camping is a great family activity. At the Cabela’s event, young families will be encouraged to take their children camping this year.”
She added, “Time spent camping or RVing allows you to slow down and gives you the flexibility to pursue what you want and where you want to be. It gives you a chance to rediscover your family and lets you choose the activities your family enjoys. So stop in at Cabela’s and get acquainted with camping and RVing.”
