SSI: February Canadian Towable Sales Rise 17%

Year-over-year Canadian retail sales of towable RVs rose 16.9% in February and 3.1% year-to-date, according to the latest report from Statistical Surveys Inc. (SSI). The Grand Rapids. Mich.-based firm noted that the provinces of British Columbia and Ontario are incomplete for the month and data for Quebec is not currently available for towable units.

A sector-by-sector breakdown indicates:

• Sales in the travel trailer sector surged 21.3% in February and showed an 8.9% gain for the two months.

• Fifth-wheel sales increased 8.7% for the month but fell 10.2% year-to-date.

• Folding camping trailer registrations slipped 1.6% in February and 3.6% for the two months.

• Recreational park trailers were up 12.5% in February, but fell 11.8% year-to-date.

Thor Industries Inc. was the overall Canadian towables sales leader through February with a 36.9% market share, followed by Forest River Inc. at 15.7% and Jayco Inc. at No. 3, holding a 15.3% share.

Thor also was also the leader in travel trailer sales for the two months with a 36.8% market share while Jayco was No. 2 with a 16.8% share, followed by Forest River, which captured a 15.1% share.

Thor held a commanding lead in the Canadian fifth-wheel sector through February, capturing a 44.9% market share, with Forest River at No. 2 posting a 15.6% share. Thor was also No. 1 in park model sales with a 33.3% share followed by Skyline Corp. at 26.7% and Woodland Park at 20%.

Jayco led folding camping trailer sales for the two months with a 29.6% market share while Forest River posted a 27.2% share and Forest River’s Coachmen division held a 13.6% share.

Year-over-year Canadian retail sales of towable RVs rose 4.8% in December while posting a 2.9% increase for the full year.

According to the latest report from Statistical Surveys Inc. (SSI), a sector-by-sector breakdown indicates:

• Sales in the travel trailer sector surged 21.8% in December, ending the year with a 6% gain.

• Fifth-wheel sales dropped 17.3% for the month and slid 0.9% for 2011.

• Folding camping trailer registrations fell 20% in December and 11.7% for the 12 months.

• Recreational park trailers plummeted 54.5% in December, ending the year down 12%.

Thor Industries Inc. was the overall Canadian towables sales leader for 2011 with a 33.3% market share, followed by Forest River Inc. at 18.3% and Jayco Inc. at No. 3, holding a 16.1% share.

Thor also was also the leader in travel trailer sales for the 12 months with a 31.9% market share while Forest River was No. 2 with a 17.7% share, edging out Jayco, which captured a 17.5% share.

Thor held a commanding lead in the Canadian fifth-wheel sector through December, capturing a 47.7% market share, with Forest River at No. 2 posting a 17.1% share. Thor was also No. 1 in park model sales with a 31.2% share followed by Skyline Corp. at 23% and General Coach Canada at 15.8%.

Forest River led camping trailer sales for the 12 months with a 28.7% market share while Jayco posted a 27.6% share and Forest River’s Coachmen division held a 16.5% share.

Year-over-year Canadian retail sales of towable RVs were up 5.9% in November and a 2.8% for the first 11 months of 2011, according to the latest report from Statistical Surveys Inc. (SSI).

A sector-by-sector breakdown indicates:

• Sales in the travel trailer sector increased 8.4% in November and 5.8% year-to-date.

• Fifth-wheel sales edged up 2.9% for the month and slid 0.7% through November.

• Folding camping trailer registrations dropped 9.1% in November and 11.8% for the first 11 months.

• Recreational park trailers sales in November matched last year, but fell 11% year-to-date.

Thor Industries Inc. was the overall Canadian towables sales leader for the 11 months with a 33.2% market share, followed by Forest River Inc. at 18.3% and Jayco Inc. at No. 3, holding a 16.1% share.

Thor also was the leader in travel trailer sales through November with a 31.8% market share while Forest River was No. 2 with a 17.8% share, edging out Jayco, which captured a 17.5% share.

A sector-by-sector breakdown indicates:

• Sales in the travel trailer sector were down 2.5% in October and 4.8% year-to-date.

• Fifth-wheel sales were fell 6.7% for the month and edged down 2.1% through October.

• Folding camping trailers registrations dropped 20% in October and 12.2% for the first 10 months.

• Recreational park trailers sales declined 66.7% for the month and fell 12.3% year-to-date.

Thor Industries Inc. was the overall Canadian towables sales leader for the 10 months with a 33.0% market share, followed by Forest River Inc. at 18.4% and Jayco Inc. was No. 3, holding a 16.2% share.

Thor also was the leader in travel trailer sales through October with a 31.7% market share while Forest River was No. 2 with a 17.9% share, edging out Jayco, which captured a 17.5% share.

Canadian retail sales of towable RVs showed a 5.0% decrease in July and a 0.7% dip for the first seven months, according to the latest report from Statistical Surveys Inc. (SSI).

A sector-by-sector breakdown shows:

• Sales in the travel trailer sector fell 1.3% in July and rose 2.5% for the first seven months.

• Fifth-wheel sales dropped 13.0% for the month and were down 4.8% year-to-date.

• Folding camping trailers registrations showed a 13.1% drop in July and a 14.2% decline for the first seven months.

• Recreational park trailers sales declined 20.0% for the month and 23.4% year-to-date.

Thor Industries Inc. was the overall towables sales leader for the seven months with a 32.7% market share followed by Forest River Inc. at 18.7% and Jayco Inc. holding a 16.5% share.

Thor also was No. 1 in travel trailer sales through July with a 31.7% market share while Forest River was No. 2 at 18.1%, edging out Jayco, which captured a 17.8% share.

Thor held a commanding lead in the fifth-wheel sector year-to-date, capturing a 46.7% market share, with Forest River posting a 17.6% share. Thor was also No. 1 in park model sales with a 32.1% share followed by Skyline Corp. at 23.3% and General Coach Canada at 19.7%.

Forest River led the folding camping trailer segment for the first seven months, posting 29.1%, edging out Jayco at 28.8%.

Canadian retail sales of towable RVs showed a 3.7% increase in June and a 0.4% dip for the first six months, according to the latest report from Statistical Surveys Inc. (SSI). Registrations were up 3.5% in the second quarter.

A sector-by-sector breakdown shows:

• Sales in the high-volume travel trailer sector rose 6.4% in June and 2.6% for the first six months.

• Fifth-wheel sales were up 5.8% for the month and down 3.5% year-to-date.

• Folding camping trailers registrations showed an 18.6% drop in June and a 14.7% decline for the first six months.

• Recreational park trailers dropped 31.3% for the month and 24.2% year-to-date.

Thor Industries Inc. was the overall towables sales leader for the six months with a 32.7% market share followed by Forest River Inc. at 18.7% and Jayco Inc. holding a 16.5% share.

Thor also was No. 1 in travel trailer sales through June with a 31.6% market share while Forest River was No. 2 at 18.2%, edging out Jayco, which captured a 17.9% share.

Thor held a commanding lead in the fifth-wheel sector year-to-date, capturing a 46.5% market share, with Forest River posting a 17.7% share. Thor was also No. 1 in park model sales with a 34% share followed by Skyline Corp. at 21.8% and General Coach Canada at 21.3%.

Forest River and Jayco shared the top spot in the folding camping trailer segment for the first six months, each holding a 29.4% market share.

Canadian retail sales of towable RVs showed a 9.4% decline in May and a 14.1% drop for the first five months, according to the latest report from Statistical Surveys Inc. (SSI).

All sectors reflected decreased sales in year-over-year comparisons, including:

• Travel trailer registrations fell 6.4% in May and 11% for the first five months.

• Fifth-wheel sales were down 18% for the month and 21% year-to-date.

• Folding camping trailers registrations showed a 13.5% drop in May and a 19.1% decline for the first five months.

• Recreational park trailers dropped 13.1% for the month and 34.4% year-to-date.

Thor Industries Inc. was the leader for Canadian travel trailer sales through May with a 31.9% market share followed by Jayco Inc. at 20% and Forest River Inc. holding a 16.5% share.

Thor held a commanding lead in the fifth-wheel sector year-to-date, capturing a 47.7% market share, with Forest River posting a 17.2% share. Thor was also No. 1 in park model sales with a 61.9% share.

Jayco and Forest River were top sellers in the folding camping trailer segment for the first five months, holding a 30.4% and 27.2% market share respectively.

Canadian retail sales of towable RVs showed a 15.5% decline in April and an 18% drop for the first four months, according to the latest report from Statistical Surveys Inc. (SSI).

All sectors reflected double digit declines, including:
• Travel trailer registrations fell 12.1% in April and 15.1% for the first four months.
• Fifth-wheel sales were down 23.6% for the month and 23.6% year-to-date.
• Folding camping trailers registrations showed a 17.4% drop in April and a 23.6% decline for the first four months.
• Recreational park trailers dropped 52% for the month and 54.2% year-to-date.

Thor Industries Inc. was the leader for Canadian travel trailer sales through April with a 31.9% market share followed by Jayco Inc. at 18.4% and Forest River Inc. holding a 16.5% share.

Thor held a commanding lead in the fifth-wheel sector year-to-date, capturing a 47.1% market share, and also led park model sales with a 61.4% share.

Jayco and Forest River led the folding camping trailer segment for the first four months, holding a 29% and 25.1% market share respectively.
