July 11, 2013 by · Leave a Comment

Organizers for Caravan Salon Düsseldorf are again anticipating strong participation for this year’s event, including 570 international exhibitors representing 120 travel trailer and motorhome brands. According to a press release, companies will showcase approximately 1,800 recreational vehicles in all price ranges.

The Caravan Salon will open at the Düsseldorf Exhibition Centre with a trade visitor and media day on Aug. 30 and run through Sept. 8. In addition to product displays, the show will offer several supplemental programs, including:

• All-wheel vehicles are becoming increasingly popular, and Messe Düsseldorf is reacting to this trend. This year high-horsepower, all-wheel drive vehicles will be presented in a spectacular off-road show. Visitors will have the opportunity to experience the thrill of riding in these off-road machines from a passenger’s perspective as they are chauffeured through a large-scale obstacle course.

• At the Dream Tour Cinema Jeanette Emerich and Uwe Hamm will arouse visitors’ wanderlust as they whisk them off to unique travel destinations, including the heart of South America and Route 66. A film presentation by Konstantin Abert documents his caravan trip around the globe in fascinating images. Admission to the daily shows is included in the Caravan Salon ticket price.

• The Caravan Salon will also feature an outdoor area for children and teenagers. While children and teenagers can blow off steam at the Adventure Camp organized by the City Sports Association Düsseldorf, younger kids will stay busy playing, face-painting and enjoying the colorful action program at the Worker Welfare Association’s stand.

‘Caravan Salon’ Reports Successful ’12 Edition

September 6, 2012 by · Leave a Comment

Organizers reported strong attendance for the recently completed Caravan Salon Düsseldorf 2012, confirming “the high level of interest in RVs and mobile homes,” according to a press release. The international event was held Aug. 25 to Sept. 2 at the fairgrounds in Düsseldorf, Germany.

“With 164,900 visitors, Caravan Salon has fully met our expectations. We have achieved our targets and are happy with the results. We are especially pleased that so many knowledgeable visitors have come to Düsseldorf, thus ensuring high quality discussions,” said Joachim Schäfer, managing director of Messe Düsseldorf.

Schäfer noted that the participation of visitors from abroad, despite the current market situation in Europe, included 24,000 international attendees from 38 countries. Visitors came from as far away as Australia, Brazil and Japan to get a first impression of the 2013 vehicle generation.

“Sixty-four percent of our visitors use Caravan Salon to get information on innovations and trends,” added Schäfer. The exhibition center’s Caravan Park registered 25,000 vehicles for overnight stays.

“Interest in caravanning continues to be high,” said Klaus Förtsch, president of the German Caravanning Industry Association (CIVD). “However, we noted a decrease in visitor attendance compared to 2011 and that our business deals fall slightly short of expectations. But the innovations presented at the exhibition have been received very well.”

According to Förtsch, the panel van segment and the entry-level segment of semi-integrated motorhomes continued to develop positively. In the towable sector, the focus shifted to smaller, compact vehicles due to their high level of comfort and equipment.

The majority of the exhibitors at Caravan Salon Düsseldorf 2012 were pleased with their participation. “This exhibition has clearly exceeded our expectations. The feedback is excellent, which in turn impacted our sales figures very favorably,” said Giovanni Marcon, CEO of Knaus Tabbert GmbH.

Manufacturers also gave the show a positive rating. Jörg Reithmeier, CEO of the Hymer brand, said that his company has fully achieved its targets, noting, “Visitors and customers feel a need for comprehensive and competent advice. We noted that the quality of our discussions increased yet again. But is it not only this interest – we are also very happy about our sales figures which even exceed the level of last year.”

Caravan Salon was also a success for the suppliers. “We can say that Caravan Salon continues to be the showcase of emotions and it has impressively underlined its high significance for the industry,” stated Joachim Kinscher, executive vice president of the Dometic Group. He added that the market in Germany continues to be in an excellent position.

Next year’s Caravan Salon Düsseldorf will be held in Düsseldorf, Germany from Aug. 30 (trade visitor and media day) to Sept. 8.

Attendance Strong at Caravan Salon Düsseldorf

August 30, 2012 by · Leave a Comment

Organizers reported strong attendance as the Caravan Salon Düsseldorf, running Aug. 25 to Sept. 9, reached the half-way point.

“By the end of Wednesday we had 97,000 visitors, 15,000 of these from abroad. This means figures still have ground to make up and we are looking to the days ahead with confidence,” said Helmut Winkler, director for the annual show at Germany’s Düsseldorf Exhibition Center. “Our dedicated campsite is also in great demand. We have already counted 14,000 vehicles parked here.”

Overall, a total of 160,000 visitors are expected at the Caravan Salon by Sunday.

The good mood in the caravanning sector was confirmed over the first five days of the trade fair. The number of new registrations in Germany in the first half of 2012 rose considerably compared to the same period last year, in fact achieving its highest level in four years.

This year, the trend is heading towards semi-integrated motorhomes and vans using new materials that reduce weight. Efforts also continue to build more eco-friendly trailers and motorhomes.

Airxcel to Debut Coleman A/C at Caravan Salon

August 23, 2012 by · Leave a Comment

With the motto “Discover Your World,” visitors at Caravan Salon Düsseldorf 2012 will see an extensive international lineup of products and equipment for mobile vacation by 570 exhibitors from around the world: RVs, mobile homes and caravans, basic vehicles, accessories and furnishing components as well as awnings/tents and travel destinations. The event takes place August 25-Sept. 2 (trade visitor day on Aug. 24) at the fairgrounds in Düsseldorf, Germany.

Among this year’s exhibitors will be Wichita, Kan.-based supplier Airxcel Inc. President Mel Adams, in Europe earlier this week in preparation for the Düsseldorf Show, told RVBUSINESS.com that its RV Products division was introducing its new Coleman Mach 8 air conditioner, a new lightweight, low profile rooftop design that is being concurrently introduced to the U.S. marketplace this fall and winter.

“The new Mach 8 is the lowest air conditioner that’s been built in the sizes that we build it, as far as I know, in the world – in the U.S. for sure,” Adams said. “It’s got the same high 13,500-Btu output delivery as the air conditioner that we build in the U.S. It’s also available in an 8,000-Btu model in Europe. The profile of the air conditioner is very stylish and we believe meets the world demand for being a very well styled air conditioner.

“We also are debuting it for the international market in a heat pump variant with a completely new ground-up assembly that is designed to fit all of the international cutout opening sizes for air conditioner installation, which are slightly larger than the U.S. And, also, all of the international models will be accompanied by a remote control device. So, that’s what we’re here for.”

Airxcel has already introduced in the states 13,500- and 15,000-Btu units to all of the OEMs on a one-on-one basis, and will more formally introduce the Coleman Mach 8 to the entire market at this winter’s 50th Annual National RV Trade Show, Nov. 27-29 at the Kentucky Exposition Center in Louisville.

Dusseldorf, Adams added, is the place to be.

“Yes, Dusseldorf, Caravan Salon, is the largest RV show in the world as far as square footage as well as diversity of those interested in building or buying RV’s all around the world,” he said. “We utilize this show primarily because you will see customers from all over the world and from smaller countries that would not in all liklihood attend our U.S. shows, such as Louisville.”

Other companies doing U.S. business exhibiting in Dusseldorf include Airstream Inc., Fiamma Inc., Tecnoform S.p.A., Al-Ko Kober, Dometic Corp., Thetford Corp. and Navistar RV.

A total of 120 RV, caravan and mobile home brands will be represented and exhibit space demand was so high again this year that all halls are fully booked. Halls 9 to 12 as well as Hall 14, 16 and 17 will be reserved for vehicles ranging from small caravans and compact mobile homes for two people to family vehicles and luxury motorhomes. Hall 13 will be home to suppliers while Hall 15 will showcase both the tourism and accessories sections.

Reduced energy consumption, pioneering developments, lightweight design options and mobile homes with hybrid drive will be showcased with the return of the Green Caravanning presentation, which debuted in 2010. Equipped with the latest environment-technology components, the Green Motor Home will demonstrate how RVs can become more eco-friendly.

The exhibits will be complemented by a multi-faceted program, including the “caravanning design award: innovations for new mobility,” the vintage caravan exhibition and the “dream tours” presentation about RV travel in Namibia and South Africa, Latin America, the Baltic and East Prussia.

Many caravan enthusiasts will travel to Caravan Salon 2012 in their own vehicles and some 30,000 visitors will spend the night in their RVs or mobile homes at the Caravan Center. The large parking lot close to the fairgrounds offers more than 2,000 serviced and non-serviced slots.

From Aug. 31-Sept. 2, the hiking and trekking trade fair TourNatur 2012 will be held parallel with CARAVAN SALON. In Hall 1, more than 5,000 hiking destinations will be presented while Hall 2 will feature the latest hiking and trekking gear.

Positive Outlook After Dusseldorf’s RV Show

September 6, 2011 by · Leave a Comment

With the current economic climate threatening the motorhome and caravan markets, the Caravan Salon Dusseldorf has reported increased visitor numbers and better-than-expected sales figures, suggesting a promising year ahead.

Motorhome News reported that 179,000 visited last week’s show in Germany, smashing the show’s expectations of around 160,000 visitors. The show has reported that visitors came from around the globe and that 62% came with specific intentions to buy.

This positivity is backed by exhibitors with many reporting increased show sales. Giovanni Marcon, chairman of the board at Knaus Tabbert (the manufacturer returning to the UK this year) said, “Sales volume overall has risen considerably with a clear improvement in favor of motorhomes.”

With the annual indoor show considered a barometer for the coming year, this positive response should be particularly encouraging to motorhome manufacturers and dealers.

The next Caravan Salon Dusseldorf will take place Aug. 25 to Sept. 2, 2012.

Caravan Salon on Tap, Marks 50th Anniversary

April 29, 2011 by · Leave a Comment

Caravan Salon Düsseldorf 2011, Europe’s No. 1 show for motorhomes and RV’s, will celebrate its 50th anniversary in Düsseldorf, Germany, running Aug. 27-Sept. 4.

According to a news release, the trade fair will again serve as a meeting point for the international RV and motorhome industry and provide an overview of the latest innovations and trends in this sector. In nine halls, Caravan Salon 2011 will present the world’s largest line-up for the “mobile vacation” sector.
Officials reported that demand from exhibitors is so high that the halls are completely booked. This year, over 550 exhibitors will showcase motorhomes and RVs from 120 international brands, basic vehicles, accessories and detachable parts as well as tents, park trailers and travel destinations.
Halls 9 – 12 as well as halls 4, 16 and 17 will feature all vehicles. In Hall 13, visitors will find the Technology for Order segment while Hall 15 will present the tourism and accessories segments together for the first time this year.

The spectrum of vehicles on display at Caravan Salon Düsseldorf 2011 will range from small, economical RVs to compact motorhomes to luxury motorhomes. Caravan Salon 2011 is traditionally the venue where companies introduce their innovations. This year visitors can once again look forward to many new product launches and a number of exhibitors have already announced special vehicle models and activities to celebrate the anniversary.
Enjoying particular and continued popularity are partially integrated motorhomes and van campers, such as compact vehicles weighing less than 3.5 tons. Moreover, convenience is a trend: in many new vehicles amenities such as mattresses and seats with massage functions, loudspeakers and satellite TV are considered standard.
The RV industry also continues its efforts to become even more eco-friendly. Modern components reduce the energy consumption of recreational vehicles and save emissions – even a hybrid drive for motor homes is currently being developed. Caravan Salon 2011  will therefore continue its Green Caravanning presentation which debuted in 2010. Equipped with the latest environment-technology components, the Green Motor Home will demonstrate how RV’s can become more eco-friendly.

The 50th anniversary will play a prominent role in the trade fair’s program. At the North entrance, a showcase of vintage vehicles will take visitors back to the beginning of Caravan Salon. This journey through time will be continued by a multi-media show at the Caravanning-Show-Center and the Caravanning Industry Association (CIVD) stand (where the first prize will be a high-quality caravan and car). On Aug. 27 and Sept. 3, visitors will be invited to celebrate the “birthday” of Caravan Salon from 6 p.m.-8 p.m. with a ’60′s-style social event, enjoying live music and catering at ’60’s prices.

From Sept. 2 – 4, TourNatur 2011, Trade Fair Hiking and Trekking, will be held parallel with Caravan Salon. In Hall 1, more than 5,000 hiking destinations will be presented while Hall 2 will feature the latest hiking and trekking gear.

Caravan Salon 2011 will be open daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m on Aug. 27-Sept. 4. For trade visitors and media representatives the trade fair will open on Aug. 26. Entrance passes will be available online at http://www.caravan-salon.de/ starting in July. Only one pass is necessary to visit both Caravan Salon 2011 and TourNatur 2011. Passes allow free use of all public transportation on all days of the events within the Rhine-Ruhr regional network (VRR) of Düsseldorf. New: eTickets ordered online can be printed at home and will be converted into badges at the turnstiles on show site.

Dusseldorf Show Exceeded Expectations

September 8, 2010 by · 1 Comment

With higher attendance, new products and good sales figures, this year’s Caravan Salon Dusseldorf emphasized the recovery of the European RV sector and the growing interest in mobile home vacations.

A total of 580 exhibitors from 26 countries showcased the latest vehicles and accessories in Düsseldorf, Germany, according to a press release.

“With 170,200 visitors, Caravan Salon Dusseldorf 2010 was among the three best stagings in the trade fair‘s history and has far exceeded our expectations,” stated Joachim Schäfer, managing director of Messe Düsseldorf. “We are particularly delighted that more than half of the visitors came to Düsseldorf with concrete intentions to buy and a willingness to invest. Seventy percent of the prospective buyers said they wanted to spend more than Euro 25,000 ($31,000) on a new vehicle.”

The number of visitors from abroad also increased: 23,000 international visitors participated from as far away as Australia, New Zealand, the U.S., China and Mexico. On the Caravan Center, over 25,200 RV overnight stays were registered.

Klaus Förtsch, president of Caravanning Industrie Verband e.V (CIVD), was also very pleased with the event.

Overview of one of the exhibit halls at the show.

“Attendance substantially increased compared to last year and we noted that this also impacted sales figures. The innovations presented here were very well received,” he said.

According to an exhibitor survey, luxury-class RVs were very popular as were smaller RVs (due to their innovative and compact interior layouts) and small to medium motorhome models.

“Caravan Salon Dusseldorf 2010 raised hopes that the positive trend of the first six months will continue in the second half of the year,” added  Förtsch. From January to June 2010, the German RV sector generated sales worth Euro 2.5 billion  ($3.1 billion) — 11.3% more than over the same period last year.

The show exhibitors stated that their expectations had exceeded across the board with an excellent atmosphere prevailing throughout the event.

Giovanni Marcon, chairman of Knaus Tabbert GmbH, explained: “The flow of visitors was very good and interest very high – we did not expect this extent of interest. This was also reflected in the number of deals actually concluded. The trade fair was one of the most successful in the past few years.”

Hermann Pfaff, member of the board at Hymer AG, stated that his company reached all targets set before the event: “Attendance showed that interest in caravanning continues to be strong. In addition to the visitor interest we are also very satisfied with the turnover.”

Holger Siebert, general manager at Eura Mobil GmbH, added that customers were looking for more quality again and were less focused on bargains. According to Siebert, “There is a substantial number of visitors who come regularly every two or three years but failed to do so last year. In 2009, many customers postponed investing in a new vehicle due to budget reasons but they have come back this year to spend.”

Frank Mix, general manager of VARIO mobil Fahrzeugbau GmbH, noted that the interest in luxury-class vehicles was also high but that size and required furnishings varied widely. “In general, the mood was better than last year and we had many good talks. Interested visitors this year included many owners of major companies who are now ready to buy a vehicle again,” he said.

The trade fair also proved successful for accessories suppliers. Joachim Kinscher, executive vice president of the Dometic Group and member of the board of the suppliers organized within the CIVD, remarked, “It was unexpectedly positive and we can say that we had one of the best trade fairs of the few past years from the supplier point of view. Visitors took an avid interest in high-quality furnishing components. Furthermore, we got important signals here from vehicle manufacturers that we can expect a good production over the next few months. This again is better than expected.”

Vacation destinations were another big topic at the show. About 50% of the attendees were already planning their next summer vacation while the other half gathered information on destinations for trips in autumn and winter. Two-thirds of the visitors came with specific plans, explained Eike Schüürmann, general manager of LeadingCampings, “Visitors at our stand were looking for specific vacation and high-end camping sites information.”

As in the past, TourNatur, Hiking Trade Fair, was held concurrently with Caravan Salon. A total of 275 exhibitors showcased the latest hiking equipment and products to 41,300 attendees (compared to 33,500 visitors in 2009).

Looking Ahead

Next year, the show will celebrate its 50th anniversary when held from Aug. 26 (trade visitor and media day) to Sept. 4. (TourNatur will take place from Sept. 2 – 4).
