David Partin

Former Fleetwood Enterprises Inc. executive C. David Partin, 66, of Surprise, Ariz., passed away peacefully March 25 after having been hospitalized with pneumonia since Jan. 25 at Kindred Long Term Acute Care Facility in Peoria, Ariz.

Born in Milan, Mo., Partin started his career in 1966 as a draftsman at Fisher Controls in Marshalltown, Iowa, and went to work in 1969 in corporate concept development for Winnebago Industries Inc. in Forest City, Iowa. Partin was employed by Winnebago until 1987, when he became director of design for Fleetwood Enterprises in Riverside, Calif., until his 2006 retirement.

“David was a natural ‘product guy,’” recalls Dave Russell, the now-retired director of product planning for Fleetwood Enterprises who first hired Partin to work on Fleetwood’s legendary Bounder Class A. “He had an innate sense of what would work, what made sense and what would sell. “David worked very closely with (Fleetwood founder) John Crean throughout the evolution of the Bounder product as it eventually became the No. 1-selling motorhome in the U.S. John had a deep respect for David’s abilities and trusted his judgement on product improvements. That is a huge statement.”

Partin is survived by his wife of 45 years, Jennifer, of Surprise, Arizona, and daughters Jill, San Marcos, Calif., and Stacia (Jesse) Stout of Honolulu, Hawaii, in addition to grandchildren Carter and Lilah Stout.
