The Dobbertin Surface Orbiter has got to be one of the most unusual home-brew RVs ever constructed. The basis for this wild RV, which can travel by land or by sea, is a 1959 milk tanker, and after 14,000 man-hours of conversion work, it’s ready for you to take it home. The Orbiter is Rick Dobbertin’s brain-child. The Syracuse, N.Y., man built it for a round-the-world journey, but his plans ran out of gas when he ran out of money. Still, the Orbiter has logged over 33,000 land miles and 3,000 open sea miles. Dual controls forward make arguments about where to go a reality. Photos courtesy of dobbertinhydrocar.com.
