Warranty Administrator Starts Forum on Yahoo

May 5, 2009 by · 4 Comments

Dominic A. Michele Jr., a veteran service writer, service adviser and warranty administrator for the auto and RV industries now based in Florida, has started a warranty group forum on Yahoo.

“With the decline of RV sales, it has become more important than ever for the RV dealerships to capitalize on all warranty work at every service visit,” he told RVBusiness.  “In times of prosperity, when most dealerships were scheduling service appointments months in advance, it was common for service writers to only address the specific items that the owner of the coach would be concerned with.  If an item was not of concern to the owner of the RV, then it was not addressed on that service visit.

“This practice of service writing resulted in lost revenue for everyone within the dealership.  It should be every adviser and technician’s first responsibility to repair each and every RV correctly the first time. When a vehicle arrives at a warranty service center, it is extremely important to address all of the warranty and retail items at that time.

“The warranty administrator’s responsibility is to claim as much warranty as allowed per repair.  Without any formal training, most writers learn from experience.  Experience usually results in lost revenue because of incorrectly processed claims.  In times where the manufacturers are scrutinizing every claim, this is not the time to sacrifice income for lack of training.

“This is the reason I have started a “Warranty Group Forum” on Yahoo.  This is a group that RV warranty writers can ask questions regarding warranty claim processing,  collecting warranty payments from the manufacturers and any other “How To” issues that they need help with.

He envisions the forum  as a place where RV warranty department managers and warranty administrators are able to share experiences and ask questions relating to any warranty procedure.

“In this tough economy I feel any additional information that we can gather from each other will help to make our profession a little less stressful and a lot more lucrative,” he concluded.
