Trigano Group, the French owner of Auto-Trail, has announced the acquisition of Italian motorhome manufacturer SEA Group.
Out and About Live reported that SEA Group produces motorhomes under the McLouis, Elnagh and Mobilvetta brands. It employs 365 people and has sold around 3,200 motorhomes in 2012.
The group had been in difficulties since 2006, due mainly to the decrease of the Italian motorhome market and high levels of debt with unfavorable financial terms and management instability, according to Trigano.
Trigano’s UK brands include Auto-Trail, Chausson and Roller Team.
The acquisition of SEA, which is subject to the agreement of the German and Italian competition authorities, is part of Trigano’s strategy of “development through external growth in the fields of leisure vehicles, accessories for leisure vehicles and trailers.”
Trigano will acquire 100% of the capital and financial debt of SEA Group.
According to a press release, the new Hymermobil StarLine Class B motorhome will be built on the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter chassis, bringing the total number of StarLine models to six, four of which have a double floor.
The newest StarLine will boast safety features including Hymer’s standard safety package, cruise control and converter-automatic transmission.
“We conducted joint tests with Mercedes and really put the Hymer Class B StarLine through its paces,” said Hymer product manager Rainer Wingart. “Full braking, high-speed swerving and cornering on wet rainy roads were on the agenda and StarLine passed every discipline with flying colors.”
Other features include electric cab windows, huge garage doors on both sides of the vehicle, an awning light with rain shield and a height-friendly sunken shower tray.
Details about plans for the model in the UK have yet to be released but prices in Europe will start from 80,990 euros or around $128,000.
