Full-time RVer David Gray announced the launch of a user-friendly RV fifth-wheel and gooseneck trailer safety website, www.FifthWheelSt.com, that “simplifies the task of weighing your truck and trailer.”
According to a press release, Gray created the site after experiencing a blowout with his fifth-wheel and finding little online information for calculating the weight of his truck and trailer.
Gray said the website provides an easy-to-use online calculator, printable worksheets and a safety report, all “with concise, easy to understand instructions.” He noted that worksheets and a calculator were recently added to include a full range of conventional towable vehicles as well as the fifth-wheel and gooseneck trailers. Safety reports were updated by including kingpin and tongue weight percentages as well as adding a related article.
“An overload combined with under- or over-inflated tires can cause a sudden blowout or breakdown,” he said in the release. “When towing a fifth-wheel or gooseneck trailer, it is very important to ensure that the load is distributed evenly and that all necessary safety precautions have been taken to prevent an RV accident.”
Gray added that according to the RV Safety & Education Foundation (RVSEF), data indicates that 51% of RVs on the road exceed one or more weight safety ratings.
