Despite the turbulent economic climate and spiking gas prices, Jake Freudiger’s RV business hasn’t just gone unscathed — it’s thrived.
Freudiger two years ago opened Freudiger RV Services in San Angelo, Texas, after relocating from the Dallas Fort-Worth area, where he worked for an RV dealership. The business quickly outgrew its first location and earlier this month moved to a larger facility.
“I originally started in the boat business,” said Freudiger, who has been in the RV industry 33 years. “RVs and boats are basically the same — one leaks on top; one leaks on the bottom. I was told many years ago when I bought my first boat business that as long as you work on people’s toys, you will always have work, and that has held true.”
The services the business provides is another reason for its success, Freudiger said.
“We specialize in insurance repairs,” he said. “I do all the written estimates, I coordinate with the insurance adjusters and order all the repairs, and we do the repairs at our facility. We are the only ones in a 100-mile radius that specialize in the insurance industry and RV industry combined. We go as far as Menard; we’ve gone to Del Rio. The area (the business can) encompass is fantastic here.”
Business, he added, is booming year-round.
“A lot of customers opt to do the big insurance jobs during the offseason so they won’t be without their RV during peak vacation times,” Freudiger said. “We also do full service work. We work on everything in the house — air conditioners, furnaces, plumbing, electrical. About 80% of our service work is done in the field; we go to the customer’s house or the storage facility to do the repairs there.”
