Thor Industries Inc. and Winnebago Industries Inc. received special recognition as Go RVing Champions at the “Outlook 2010: Let the Sun Shine” kickoff to the 47th National RV Trade Show on Tuesday (Dec. 1).

As Go RVing Champions, Thor Industries and Winnebago Industries have pledged to make a voluntary donation of at least $100,000 over a three-year period, in addition to mandatory new unit assessments, according to a news release. They top a list of 16 contributors to Go RVing’s 2010 – 2012 Go The Extra Mile campaign who have collectively pledged more than $400,000 to support the industry group with voluntary contributions at various funding levels. The contributors were recognized and thanked in programs distributed to the 1,000 attendees at the market expansion showcase and at the Go RVing booth.

Bob Olson, chairman, CEO and president of Winnebago, and Walt Bennett, executive vice president and chief administrative officer of Thor, presented ceremonial checks to Go RVing at the event.

Olson said, “On behalf of Winnebago, our management team, our employees and most especially our dealers, we enthusiastically support Go RVing. In fact, Winnebago believes in Go RVing so much that, since the group began, we have contributed $433,000.” He continued, “I hope the rays of sunshine are beaming on everyone in the industry these days.”

Bennett said, “There are few defining moments for an industry, and Go RVing offers that defining moment to the RV industry. On behalf of Thor, and in memory of Wade Thompson, I encourage all of you to join in and be a big contributor to Go RVing.”

Go RVing’s “Go the Extra Mile” program provides members an opportunity to demonstrate special commitment to the campaign and to be recognized as leading boosters. It was developed in response to RVIA members’ requests as a way of voluntarily supplementing the funds available for the campaign, which is predominantly funded by mandatory assessments on all new units built by RVIA manufacturers. The minimum pledge to qualify for Go the Extra Mile recognition benefits is $2,000 over the three-year drive, spread into quarterly payments.

Dicky Riegel, Go RVing co-chairman, thanked the industry, saying, “Because of the support of the Extra Mile contributors and everyone who supports Go RVing through their assessments, Go RVing will be able to do even more for the industry next year.”
