Although the annual Bangor, Maine, RV and Camping Show was canceled for the second consecutive year due to lack of vendor interest, people who want to check out some of the latest models can still do so next weekend, the Bangor Daily News reported.
Don Harvey, owner of Harvey RVs, said last week that he decided to put on his own show at his dealership at 2992 Broadway in Bangor in spite of the cancellation, which was announced last month by staff at Bass Park and the Bangor Civic Center.
Members of the staff of those city-owned facilities have been organizing the annual show as an in-house production and hope to do so again in future years, Bass Park Director Mike Dyer said last month.
The show at Harvey RVs is set for 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Jan. 21-23, the same weekend the city had planned to host its show.
Harvey said he already had lined up representatives from the lines his dealership handles and that it was too late to cancel those plans when the city’s show fell through.
Harvey, who complained that the city “can’t seem to get its act together” to hold a show this year, said the city’s show likely would generate more interest if it were held in late February or early March, when more people are thinking about the camping and traveling season.
Harvey said admission to his show is free.
