A blaze Tuesday (Nov. 27) at the Hitch House on Highway 11 in Oro-Medonte, Ontario, has destroyed the main building of the RV dealership and eight RVs inside, Bayshore Broadcasting in Owen Sound reported.

Oro-Medonte firefighters and police were called to the business around 2:30 p.m. The fire started in a motorhome in the showroom and intensified, which resulted in the neighboring fire departments of Barrie, Orillia, Springwater Township and Severn Township being called in to assist.

Highway 11 southbound was closed down for about 3 hours to allow fire tankers access to obtain water to fight the fire and to ensure public safety.

Thirty-five employees managed to get out safely.

The Ontario Fire Marshall’s Office is investigating, but the fire is not considered suspiciuos at this time.
