Oregon Airstream Dealer Expanding Operations

Two years ago, Ted Davis and Parker Johnstone were greeted with skepticism when they opened an Airstream travel trailer dealership in Milwaukie, Ore., amid the struggling economy.

“A lot of folks considered us, if not crazy, slightly unstable,” Davis said. “But we looked at what the Airstream product represents — a part of history and so iconic — we figured it was a pretty good bet.”

These days, according to a report in The Oregonian, the risk is paying off. Airtstream Advenures Northwest quickly outgrew its original facility and, last month, moved to a location less than a mile down the street that’s “six times larger,” Davis said. The new building enables the business to expand its services.

“It’s been a great growth curve,” the co-owner said. “Portland is really responsive to the Airstream product.”

The business focuses solely on the sale and service of the recreational vehicles, known for its rounded aluminum shell designed more than 80 years ago. Airstream products range in price from $32,000 to $92,000, Davis said.

Davis and Johnstone believe in the unique product so much they opened an Airstream dealership near Seattle, and next month, plan to open a third in Boise. Davis said the dealerships enable them to provide people with “memories and adventures.”

The business claims to have the largest inventory for Airstreams in the country.
