The Elkhart County unemployment rate fell in September from August but it wasn’t enough to keep the RV capital from returning to having the highest unemployment rate in Indiana. The jobless rate for September was 13%, down from 13.4% in August, the Indiana Department of Workforce Development (IDWD) reported today (Oct. 22).

Elkhart County had the second highest rate in August.

The city of Elkhart’s jobless rate was 14.9% and for Goshen was 13.2%, both among the highest in the state. A year ago, the county’s jobless rate was 16.1%, while rates for Elkhart and Goshen were 19% and 14.7%, respectively.

Indiana’s preliminary seasonally-adjusted unemployment rate dropped 0.1% to 10.1% in September. The U.S. unemployment rate for the month was unchanged at 9.6%.
