The 20th Annual Kearney RV, Boat and Travel Show gets under way today (Jan. 29) at the Exhibit Building at the Buffalo County Fairgrounds in Kearney, Neb., according to the Kearney Hub.

“We’re expecting about 3,000 people to attend this year,” said John Gerber, owner of Super Sport Marine in Kearney.

This is Gerber’s 11th year as promoter of the show.

Gerber said RVs built using more space-aged materials, lighter than ever before, will be on display at the show.

“RVs are stronger and more durable. The most popular now is not the traditional aluminum,” he said. Fuel efficiency and durability are more important now than ever.

Boats with the newest outboard motor technology will be showcased. “We have stronger engines that are just as powerful as before that are 20% lighter than they have been. Boat technology has taken quite a leap,” Gerber said.

In spite of the economic situation of the country, Gerber said most local and regional powerboat dealers are still doing a healthy amount of business.

“They had a good year,” he said. “It wasn’t our best year, but we had a very good year. We are assuming that people are possibly recreating closer to home instead of going great distances.”

Gerber said the RV and boating industry primarily markets to people 45 and older who are more financially stable.

Three recreational vehicle vendors will showcase their RVs and campers at the show: Leach Camper Sales of Lincoln, Apache Camper Sales of Bellevue and Lincoln, and Connelly’s Camper Corner of Broken Bow.
