Lance Camper Manufacturing Corp. announced it has named Bob Rogers as director of marketing. According to a press release, Rogers brings 25 years of marketing, sales and product background to Lance, including experience in the automotive, RV and motorsports industries with Nissan, Fleetwood RV Inc. and Kawasaki.

Lance Camper Manufacturing Corp. announced that it is the recipient of two separate Dealer Satisfaction Index (DSI) Awards for 2013.
According to a press release, the Lancaster, Calif.-based company was honored with the prestigious award for both its truck camper and travel trailer lines. Lance will be presented with the award on Dec. 2 during the RVDA Dealer Reception at the Crowne Plaza Hotel the evening before the opening of the National RV Trade Show in Louisville, Ky.

The DSI survey report data is comprised of the input from dealers from a series of questions related to sales support, territory, design, reliability/quality, competitive price/value, parts support, warranty support and overall dealer communications. Conley reported that in the question concerning “How likely would you be to recommend this brand to another dealer friend to handle at their dealership?” Lance scored 72.2% versus an industry average of 32.1%.

Conley added, “Our dealer body is an important component in our success. Having our dealers become members of RVDA creates an even greater opportunity for growth. The RVDA provides productivity tools and many more opportunities for their members that are essential to success in today’s marketplace.”

Lance Camper Manufacturing Corp. announced that its website, www.LanceCamper.com, along with a comprehensive social media program have produced double-digit growth throughout 2013.
According to Mark Hovanec, director of marketing for the Lancaster, Calif.-based builder, “It’s a coordinated effort. A quality site with good SEO and engaging content attract and retain a potential customer for a longer period of time.”
Hovanec reported that typical viewers stay on the site twice as long as last year, page views have quadrupled, and the bounce rate is well below acceptable internet standards.
“None of this would mean anything unless the efforts generated new business,” he said. “The number of e-mails, brochure downloads and requests for quotes has increased in order with the other site statistics.”
In addition to the website growth, Lance has committed to Facebook as the primary channel for social media. Additional presence is also on several other channels for relevance and SEO. The growth on Facebook fans has been dramatic. Growth in part is due to a focused ad campaign within the channel. This has contributed to close to a half million impressions per month.
The Recreation Vehicle Dealers Association (RVDA) will honor Lancaster, Calif.-based Lance Camper Manufacturing Corp. along with 12 other manufacturers with its Quality Circle Award on Nov. 26, prior to opening of the National RV Trade Show in Louisville, Ky.
According to a press release, the honored brands had to receive at least 15 dealer responses and score 80% or above for overall dealer satisfaction in the Association’s 19th Annual Dealer Satisfaction Index (DSI) survey.
“We’re honored by the continued recognition by our dealers as represented by the DSI Award,” says Jack Cole, president of Lance Campers. “We continually strive to build an exceptional product – constantly challenging to best ourselves. And by incorporating dealer and consumer feedback, we seem to have a successful formula.”
In consideration of the DSI Award, the RVDA asks dealers to express their level of satisfaction on a number of factors that directly affect a high quality experience for the consumer.
The 19th Annual DSI survey was conducted between April and July 2012 with 461 dealers responding.
Lancaster, Calif.-based Lance Camper Manufacturing Corp. recently awarded two dealerships with performance awards for 2012. According to a press release, Wheat Ridge, Colo.-based Ketelsen Campers was recognized for best sales performance for the 2012 model year along with top performer in travel trailer sales. Hill’s Auto and RV, Yakima, Wash., earned honors for best performance in truck camper sales. Ketelsen Campers received Lance’s first Perpetual Travel Trailer Cup, an award that will travel each year to the best performing dealer. One of the smallest segments of the recreational vehicle industry is having a steady year, according to a report in the Goshen News.
Truck campers, which slide into the back of pickup trucks, are just ahead of van campers in annual shipments from manufacturers as reported by the Recreation Vehicle Industry Association (RVIA). Actual number of sales are hard to come by as states don’t require truck campers to be registered like a towable. But voluntary reporting to RVIA by some of the 17 truck camper manufacturers show 2,200 such units were shipped to dealers in 2010.
Why buy truck camper? Because pickups are plentiful in both Canada and the United States, according to several manufacturers that displayed product at last week’s National RV Trade Show in Louisville, Ky.
“In both Canada and the United States, much of the market is on both the East Coast and West Coast,” said Keith Donkin, general manager for Northern Lite in Kelowna, British Columbia, the sole remaining pickup truck camper manufacturer in Canada. “Probably because there is more fishing and hunting on the coasts.”
One of the main advantages of pickup campers for sportsmen, according to Donkin, is they can also pull their boat trailer or another type of trailer while their pickup is loaded with the camper.
Northern Lite is known for its two-piece fiberglass shell. That shell is joined by a two-inch overlay around the camper in a similar fashion as some fiberglass boats.
The Goshen News reported that modern pickup campers feature all the amenities of larger travel trailers, just in a more compact package. Pickup campers have slide-out kitchens and dinettes, queen size beds, furnaces, insulated windows and bathrooms, some with combined showers. Northern Lite’s largest model is 10 feet, 2 inches long.
Consumers also like the quick loading and off-load times made possible by electronic jacks and quick-release tiedowns, Donkin said.
Donkin and his competitor, Mark Hovanec at Lance Camper Manufacturing Corp., Lancaster, Calif., believe the popularity of pickup campers is destined to climb.
“I think the trend people are seeing is a lot of baby boomers are downsizing their motorhomes and fifth-wheels and going into truck campers for driveability and ease of parking,” Donkin said.
Hovanec likened the trend to the Airstream trailer trend in the 1950s and 1960s. Those units were very popular, then slipped for decades, and have now rebounded.
“They were American as apple pie for so long, then there were other options in the RV industry,” Hovanec said of pickup campers. “But I think it will be like Airstream and have a resurgence.”
He believes pickup campers also offer a better camping experience, one where participants feel closer to nature than when they are housed in a luxury fifth-wheel or trailer.
“As the marketing guy,” he said, “I think we are going to see a resurgence in the devotion to our love of this product over the next couple of years.”
Many of the pickup campers in North America are made by Travel Lite in New Paris. Dustin Johns, vice president of the company, brought five pickup campers to the Louisville show this year. He was kept running all morning answering questions about the company’s new “idea” travel trailer, a new product that is a departure from the pickup campers. Still, Johns said the pickup camper market is steady, stable and important.
“The truck campers are holding their own,” he said. “They are more of a niche market, so we don’t expect to pull the numbers as other units. But that’s OK.”
Asked why Travel Lite is moving into the new area, Johns said, “Truck campers are a slow and steady thing for us. Our dealers do a good job for us but we want to grow.”
Lancaster, Calif.-based Lance Camper Manufacturing Corp. is introducing two additions to the company’s new line of travel trailers during this week’s 49th Annual National RV Trade Show in Louisville, Ky.
Along with the 1575 trailer, Lance is showing a 1274 model, its smallest unit, and the 2385 floorplan, the largest in the lineup.
According to a press release, the 1274 travel trailer features a large slideout, pop-out tent sleeper and a dry bath. With a dry weight of 2,250 pounds, the1274 is an easy tow for vehicles with a 5,000-pound tow rating.
“The 1274 feels a lot larger than it is with the pop-out tent sleeper,” says Gary Conley, national sales manager for Lance Camper adding, “And with its length and weight, it’s a very easy trailer to tow.”
The 2385 is equipped with a large kitchen offering almost eight feet of counter space, along with a full-wall slide with a “Super Dinette” and private bedroom.
Offering a dry weight of 4,615 pounds, the 2385 can be towed by most V-8 powered SUVs and light-duty trucks.
“The full wall slide and enormous kitchen really make this trailer stand out,” says Gary. “For RVers looking for the quality they’ve come to expect from Lance in a larger package – this is it.”
The largest consumer RV show on the West Coast opens Friday (Oct. 15) as the 58th Annual California RV Show kicks off its 10-day run at the Fairplex in Pomona. The only RV event staged by the Recreation Vehicle Industry Association (RVIA) open to the public, the show will feature RV manufacturers and supplier exhibits stretching across 450,000 square feet of exhibit space.
More than 25,000 consumers are expected to visit this year’s show to view the more than 800 RVs that will be on display. In addition, show attendees will also be able to take advantage of popular daily seminars to boost their knowledge about RV travel and camping, and well-known RV driving school owner and instructor Dennis Hill will once again offer his popular seminar “Yes, You Can Drive an RV.” He will also lead a session on “Traveling to Alaska.”
“The show is a fabulous forum to learn about RVing,” said RVIA President Richard Coon. “It gives both experienced RVers and those just developing an interest the ability to see an incredible variety of vehicles and gather a lot of information about RV ownership.”
The 58th Annual California RV Show also will feature live music, appearances from well-known radio and entertainment personalities, and other attractions — including RV historian David Woodworth displaying a vintage 1931 RV during the opening weekend. The 2nd Annual Classic Car Show will also take place that weekend with more than 100 classic autos on display along with the vehicle owners who travel in RVs to car competitions throughout the nation.
There will also be sweepstakes prize drawings, including a truck camper provided by Lance Camper Manufacturing Corp., Lancaster, Calif., and a travel trailer by Moreno Valley, Calif.-based MVP RV. Other prizes will include vacation packages to Catalina Island in California and Laughlin, Nev.
