The Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA) indicates that sports and recreational vehicle sales are down 12.8% since 2007, the fourth in their list of Top 10 largest recession losers.
But in Maine, the story is brighter, the Gorham Savings Bank reported.
Sheri Huff, general manager and co-owner of Lee’s Family Trailer Sales and Service in Windham, says business is doing great.
While their new vehicle sales are down significantly from the heydays of 2005, their profits have stayed constant due to clever inventory management and a 40% increase in the service and retail store business.
RVs are still moving however – today, they were to deliver their 10,000th RV since they opened their doors in 1984.
What’s even better is they are one business not contributing to the rise in unemployment. “We have kept all our staff working with no layoffs in the past five years,”said Huff.
