McKinney, Texas-based RV shade supplier MCD Innovations announced the appointment of Matthew A. Taylor as president. According to a press release, Taylor will be responsible for directing and controlling the company and all day-to-day operations.
“I am very enthused with the potential I see at MCD,” Taylor said. “Facilitating and directing the explosive growth I foresee in the RV and commercial markets as well as looking at possible acquisitions or mergers will be quite exciting.”
Taylor brings extensive operating experience having worked in large multinational companies, family run businesses and private equity ventures, including Deloitte Consulting and as president and CEO of Medco Sports Medicine, Resource Satellite and Scrip Cos.
Dave Townsley, founder of MCD, has chosen to limit his daily involvement and time in the office to focus on providing input and counsel to Taylor on new products, innovations and developments, and market strategies going forward.
“I am extremely pleased to have found someone of Matt’s caliber to lead MCD into the future and help take the company to the next level,” Townsley said. “He will be a tremendous asset to the company. My family and I have enjoyed taking MCD from its very humble beginnings in 2003 and growing it to where it has now become North America’s largest roller shade manufacturer.
He added, “I believe the future of our company is very bright indeed. We expect to experience phenomenal growth in 2014 due not only to our dominance of the recovering/growing RV market but also due to the success of our commercial shade division in landing contracts with such clients as Dunkin Donuts, Baskin Robbins, Staples, Advanced Auto Parts, and others.”
MCD Innovations’ shade systems were a featured item in many of the 2014 and 2015 recreational vehicles displayed at this week’s Recreation Vehicle Industry Association (RVIA) National RV Trade Show in Louisville, Ky.
“A growing number of RV manufacturers at this year’s RVIA show certainly recognized the importance of quality over price when choosing shade systems for their RVs, and have selected the MCD product line. They chose MCD because of the company’s high standards, quality control, service and innovation,” said Dave Townsley, CEO of MCD Innovations. “Most manufacturers want to provide a quality, trouble-free system to their customers that is known by name and is truly backed by the manufacturer.”
Brands currently carrying MCD shades in selected models include Brookstone, Coachmen, DRV, Dynamax, Fleetwood, Forest River, Heartland, Holiday Rambler, Jayco, Keystone, Leisure Vans, Lifestyle RV, Newmar, Palomino and Winnebago.
Headquartered in McKinney Texas, MCD Innovations also operates a warehousing facility in Elkhart, Ind.
Responding to increased sales during the past year, shade supplier MCD Innovations is expanding its production capacity. According to a press release, the move is part of the McKinney, Texas-based firm’s 2013-2014 Strategic Expansion Plan that will also position MCD for future growth.
The comprehensive plan calls for a significant investment in additional leading-edge manufacturing equipment, more than doubling its engineering group, making significant additions to its production management team and enlarging its production footprint size. When the current plan is fully implemented over the next six months, MCD will have expanded its production capacity four-fold.
“MCD will increase its overall production capacity by some 400% over the next six months,” said Senior RV Market Manager Travis Townsley. “The newest RV product line from MCD, the Gold Series Shade System introduced in 2012, has been wildly accepted by OEMs across the country. The first six months that the product line was on the market were great, but sales over the past six months have been absolutely phenomenal. The expansion of our production capacity will allow us to continue to meet and exceed the increased demand from OEMs, dealers, and retail customers for the Gold Series products as well as our market-leading American Duo Series day/night roller shade line.”
Townsley said that MCD is heavily investing in resources to strategically grow the business, especially in research and innovation for both the RV and commercial markets.
“Developing and leading the market through innovation has been the hallmark of our success,” he said. “We will maintain our position as the acknowledged leading supplier of day/night roller shades to the RV and commercial markets we serve.”
RV shade supplier MCD Innovations will participate in the Family Motor Coach Association’s (FMCA) Family Reunion & Motorhome Showcase in Gillette, Wyo., set for June 19-22.
According to a press release, representatives from Mckinney, Texas-based MCD will be on hand to discuss how its products block solar heat and UV rays while also providing privacy and light blockage.
“Installing an MCD roller shade system that includes both day and night shades is one simple way RVers can improve the energy efficiency of their coach by reducing air conditioning use during the hot summer months and limiting the use of generators while dry camping, saving both fuel and energy,” said MCD Senior RV Market Manager Travis Townsley.
Company representatives will also demonstrate the Dual-Range Safety System for interior windshield shades. This feature ensures that the switch-controlled power windshield shades cannot be lowered far enough to block the driver’s view of the road while the ignition key is on.
MCD offers both the deluxe American Duo and value-priced GOLD Series shades for most motorcoaches and fifth wheels.

RV shade supplier MCD Innovations is currently marking its 10th anniversary, according to a press release.
The McKinney, Texas-based company was conceived by full-time RVers Dave and Carla Townsley, and was incorporated in May 2003, beginning business as a manufacturer of private-label upscale exterior solar protection products for RV OEMs as well as for the aftermarket.
From the Townsley’s original vision, MCD has evolved and successfully grown into the largest roller shade manufacturer for the RV industry. The company’s natural evolution saw MCD apply the technology used in its exterior solar protection products to the company’s American Duo Shade System. MCD worked with RV manufacturers to incorporate MCD-powered windshield shades into Class A coaches, providing full side-to-side visor and complete windshield coverage, along with all other windows in the vehicle.
The company’s first facility was housed in a 7,500-square-foot building and employed a total of six people. Two years later MCD relocated to a 25,000-square-foot facility and grew to 45 employees and improved production with state-of-the-art manufacturing equipment. In 2011, MCD expanded again, moving to a 9.6 acre campus with 56,000 square feet of climate-controlled manufacturing and office space along with a Research and Innovation division, extensive machine shop capabilities utilizing computer-controlled equipment, a complete fabrication department, 24-hour-a-day testing processes, and the highest level quality control standards applied to every shade manufactured by the company.
“We believe the next 10 years will be as exciting in terms of growth and innovation as the first 10,” said CEO Dave Townsley. “We are thankful to our employees and customers for their support and commitment to helping us reach this milestone.”
MCD has also expanded to include the manufacture of shades for commercial and residential applications including well-known retailers such as Dunkin’ Donuts (in over 8,000 locations), Baskin Robbins (soon to exceed 1,100 locations) and others.
Responding to numerous requests, MCD Innovations has scheduled a new dealer training school for May 7-9. According to a press release, the intensive three-day course is designed to provide classroom and hands-on experience in the measurement and installation of MCD shades for the cockpit areas of a motorcoach.
Upon satisfactory completion of the course, these dealers will earn Authorized MCD Dealer status, and will be able to order and install windshield shades for their customers.
The course will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis and will be limited in size. RV businesses who wish to expand their services and actively market their ability to install MCD cockpit shades should contact MCD to reserve their space in the school.
“The addition of MCD shades is one of the most asked for renovations in RVs today. Becoming an Authorized MCD Dealer is a tremendous way to increase sales and visibility to the RVing public,” noted MCD Senior RV Market Manager, Travis Townsley.
