Michigan Speedway Offers Deluxe RV Campsite

A couple hundred race fans will be living in luxury this weekend at Michigan International Speedway – and enjoying a close-up view of the racing.

The Detroit News reported that a deluxe 20-lot RV campsite — located from Turn 3 to Turn 4 — with an incredible view of the two-mile superspeedway was built for $1.5 million, and will be available for the ARCA, Nationwide and NASCAR Sprint Cup events.

Several sections of bleachers were eliminated from the area of the track to accommodate the change, which also offers campers first-class service (water, electricity, picnic table, grill, two NASCAR cold garage passes and an individual fire pit). The common area also features two outdoor fire places.

“I think it’s one of the most exciting things we’ve done,” said Alisha Cottrell, director of fan services at the track. “It’s a first-class site.”

The cost is $1,600, and an additional $250 per person (up to 10 per site). Each site is 20 feet by 50 feet. Cottrell also said MIS officials are building one pit porch, looking like a pit box, as a test for campers to sit on.

“We don’t know where we will put it yet, but some lucky campers will get to check it out,” Cottrell said.

The majority of the lots are sold, with campers rolling in Thursday (June 14).

Also new to the track is the Budweiser Party Porch, located in Turn 4, which includes concession and merchandise stands, as well as a full bar. Plus, there will be umbrella-covered picnic tables for fans.

“It will be a fun area for fans to come and relax,” said Brad Kuhbander, manager of media relations at the track.

Campers who enjoy camping at Michigan International Speedway near Brooklyn, Mich., no longer have to wait for NASCAR season to arrive.

Campers will be able to stay at the Graves Farm Campground seasonally from Memorial Day to Labor Day. It is the speedway’s newest campground off U.S. 12 just past M-50 in Brooklyn, according to the Jackson (Mich.) Citizen-Patriot.

Sites are 25 by 50 feet, and all have electric hook-ups. Rustic sites also are available. The campground has a permanent shower and restroom building, along with walking trails, volleyball courts, fire pits, horseshoe pits, playground and picnic shelters, the release said.
