The Mike Thompson RV Super Stores “Drive for a Cause Charity Golf Tournament” benefiting Make-A-Wish resulted in a donation of over $52,000. According to a press release, the event was held July 22 at Friendly Hills Country Club in Whittier, Calif.
The dealership reported that “Wish Child,” Matthew, age 11, was diagnosed with leukemia and wished to visit Harry Potter World in Orlando, Fla. His wish has been adopted by the Mike Thompson RV family. Matthew and his family will be attending a presentation ceremony of the donation check to Make-A-Wish Greater Los Angeles/Orange County/Inland Empire chapters on Nov. 21 at Mike Thompson RV Superstore in Santa Fe Springs.
David Revere of Mike Thompson RV noted: “Three years ago the first MTRV charity golf tournament was started because of a health situation encountered in my own family. At that time, I realized the importance of the support of agencies such as Make-A-Wish and how valuable their resources are not just to the patient, but the family members as well. My own personal situation led me to conversations with other Mike Thompson RV staff and I realized how many of our lives are or have been touched by these great charitable organizations.
“The MTRV charity golf tournament allows us to give back and help support those organizations financially. Each year our tournament grows and the donation amount increases. We are so thankful for the continued and increased support we receive from our vendors, associates, friends and staff. My wish is that other family owned businesses will realize they also can make a difference. If it’s for one person or a hundred people, it’s just as important. We are so excited to meet Matthew and his family on Thursday evening. Having the opportunity to personally see someone in receipt of part of our donation is so special and a moment we won’t forget.”
Looking to add to donations collected for Make-A-Wish during the July 22 “Drive for a Cause Charity Golf Tournament,” California-based Mike Thompson RV Super Stores is holding an online auction in conjunction with radio station 100.3 FM.
According to a press release, the auction promotes the “Your turn to be a DJ” contest that will allow the winner to host their own one-hour, live radio show. The auction began on Aug. 16 and will run through Aug. 26, and is currently live on eBay. At the conclusion, the money will be added to the funds raised at the golf tournament and presented to Make-A-Wish Greater Los Angeles/Orange County/Inland Empire chapters.
“We are so grateful to 100.3, The Sound for their generous donation,” said David Revere of Mike Thompson RV. “This is an incredible opportunity for someone to have the chance to be a real live DJ, in Los Angeles no less. It’s a once in a lifetime opportunity for someone looking for exposure or just to have fun. The great part is by doing so their money goes to a wonderful organization to help make a child’s life better. This is a win–win for everyone.”

Multilocation dealer Mike Thompson RV announced that it would reinstate an internal longevity program recognizing the company’s most valuable workers. According to a press release, the initiative is “designed to encourage and reward long-term employees.”
California-based Mike Thompson RV noted that the program was discontinued in 2008 during the recession period while the company, like many other RV dealers, had no choice but to “cut costs in order to preserve the company and its future.”
At a recent luncheon held to celebrate Mike Thompson RV staff members with five or more years of employment, owners Frank and Donna DeGelas, personally thanked every worker. “The past few years have been interesting to say the least,” said Frank DeGelas. “Economic challenges did not allow for many consumers to consider a larger purchase of an RV. Anyone on staff at Mike Thompson RV for five years or longer has been extremely loyal and stood beside us through some pretty tough times. We are proud and delighted to now be in a position to bring back the program that honors and recognizes our long term family.”
The luncheon awarded 59 employees who held positions at the dealership for terms ranging from five years to one worker with over 35 years. Each employee received a cash award and recognition plaque. Those with 25 or more years also received a mantle clock.
Mark Rosenbaum of Mike Thompson RV noted, “This year has been an exciting year for MTRV. We were able to reinstate our 401(k) retirement matching program and now our longevity program. This was one way of giving our Mike Thompson RV family a big thank you, for having the confidence in us to stay and work through the recession. MTRV is very excited for our future and we are looking forward to many opportunities ahead. ”
